Want to add a smoke unit to my caboose

I’ve done a search but really can’t seem to find any answers, Is it possible to add a smoke unit to a caboose? if so what is available and where can i purchase it? I know i can buy a caboose with the smoke but I’d like to see if i can purchase a smoke unit and install it for less then the cost of an entirely new caboose.

Hello 1862General! I would suppose it depends on what type of Caboose that you want to convert and how good your tinkering skills are. Suethe Smoke units are available at most large Train Shops and this is what you would need to make a caboose smoke. However, By the time you buy or mail order a caboose or a Suethe Smoke Unit; You may have spent the type of money that a regular smoking caboose would have cost in the first place with some of the Blowout sales that are happening now. Good Luck.

OK, does anyone have any lines on great deals for smoking Cabooses? I’m guessing it may be cheaper to go that route as you suggested.

Hello 1862General! Try Grand Central in Lincoln,Neb; Joseph Gryzobski’s in Scranton,Pa; & Train City in Erie,Pa. See what kind of Smoking Cabooses that they may have on sale or at blowout prices. They all have websites & you should be able to find what you like. Take Care & let us know what you find.

I remember the other day, someone here said the Sueth smoke unit costs 20 dollars. Say, just in case you found an old caboose on ebay or something , that didn’t cost much, this might work.

Do have their website addresses or where I can find them? I’m not familiar with any of these Gentleman. All I’ve gound are new items from Lionel for about $77.00 each.

Hello 1862! Just type in the names on your address bar and the websites will come up & this will give you their phone numbers as well. Hope this helps.

I found everything except Joseph Grybowski’s site. I’m wondering if $47.00 for a smoking caboose is a good deal or can I do better??

Hello 1862General! $47.00 sounds reasonable for a Smoke Caboose. Who is selling it? I think you forgot to type in the “Z” when searching for Gryzobski’s in Scranton.Take care.

Well I only payed $39.00 for mine, but it only lasted 10 minutes

OUCH! Spanky that doesn’t look good. Well for the difference I think I will venture to get the K-line brand #616-3181 Boston & Albany Woodsided Caboose for $47.00. Just Trains has it. I hope I’m not dissapointed in it’s smoking ability.

Did all of the bodies in the background die of smoke in the lungs??

I did see a G scale smoking caboose over Christmas (Bachmann) and it was much more realisting than the smoking locos because it is more in line with the amount of smoke from a stove than what would be made by a loco under power.

Let us know what you find.

Bad news, Just Trains is out of the Boston & Albany caboose. Now I have to see if I can find one or is there another roadname that would work with the Boston & Albany that’s on my Hudson?
