Want to build a Depot

Well I have looked online and havent been able to find a depot to my liking so I want to try and build one… I want to build a model of the RGS Dolores depot somewhere between 1:20 and 1:22. No idea where to start, been looking at lots of photos of the depot online and in books

I was thinking to start maybe build it out of cut up cardboard boxes and then use that to get all the measurements to make it out of wood [%-)]

Brian:

If you have a nice “square on” photo of the structure than do the following. For 1:20 scale, resize the picture until the freight door is 4.5 inches tall. For 1:22 resize the picture until the freight door is 4.0909 inches tall {call it an even 4 inches}. When you print these “plans” they will be to actual size you need for your GRR. Unfortunately, they will print on multiple pages so you will need to do some “cut and paste” to form a single page.

If your picture is not “square on” (as is the case most of the time) then you will need to do a bunch of “fudge factoring” on the sizes.

The most important thing either way is to end up with something you like and that will fit in the available space.

Would never thought Triggy to do that…

Trigg, still have nice RR dude!

Have you tried Ghostdepot.com?

http://www.ghostdepot.com/rg/dvd.htm

they have the best single source of plans and drawing for all thing Colorado.

Of course you could always try my next station project

And next you will be building the Toonerville trolly, to go with the station.

Dave

wow I didnt know about that DVD from Ghostdepot.com I NEED to get that [:O]

ttrigg thats a great idea! I havent found many pictures like that though most are on an angle, I wish I took more photos when I was in Colorado! I didnt know what depot I wanted to model then so I was just taking a few pictures of all the ones I came across. Im mostly looking at what pictures I can find and trying to judge the hight by other objects in the picture near the depot like people, car’s, train’s ext

Toad: I freely admit and proudly proclaim that all of the rulers I use for constructing (and puirchasing) items for Rosebud Falls Scenic Railways are completely made of rubber! Gummi Rulers allow for everything I like the looks of to fit precisely. I have never been accused of being a “rivit counter.” Rivit couters have their place and I admire their adheasion to scale. I’m in this just for the fun of it.

Do I still have a nice RR you ask, I think so, have not had time to look at the last two months, what with all the mileage to and from the hospitial. Had my mech do some work on my truck three weeks ago, and have only had time to pay him, not yet time to pick up my truck. Maybe I’ll have time to get the truck and run a train this weekend. Thank the lord for Wal~Mart Health Insurance, They are spending just over $4,500 a day to keep her alive. My out of pocket costs $3.15 per day. Don’t beleive those horror stories you hear about “Wally World” Pay (like ALL retail pay) is not the best in the world, but the benifits package cannot be beat!

Hi Vic

Is there a drawing or paper model of that on line some where tried looking but could not find one.

regards John Busby

Mr. Ash,

I have many plans and I think I have that one you speak of.

You will have to get a person to size it up on a photocopyer.

This plan I am thinking of is not for the fait at heart!!!

I have so many I will have to look around here and find it. I have 2 file cabinets full of plans. 36 tubes with full drawings. Just let me take my time to look and get back with you.

Toad

Mr. Ash,

Found the plans now I have to get them copied off.

Email me off the Fourm so I can get your address and such.

And yes, it is the Dolores Depot!

Toad

Wake up Mr. Ash!!!

Here and now is the time to get the drawings of the depot!!!

I have copys now and can ship to you. Do you want them or do you want to back down???

Scale is in 1:64 in the drawings which you will need to boost the copyer to 208%.

Remember to make more than one copy in 1:64 scale just in case.

I will be waiting on your email with name and address.

Toad

See Rene, I am not such a bad guy.

Ok, spent:

  • my time

  • my gas

  • my money

  • wear on truck (GMC 2500HD)

  • 28 miles +/- round trip

and you never emailed me or even been on the board like you have been??? What gives??? I have the plans now any one can email me for them or there in the trash.

Toad

Sorry Toad was out of town, I just sent you an email []

You might try this: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=c103c513561aa4fefa43264734c34460

Ash,

Your drawings are in the mail today. Remember there S scale but you need to put some together because the copier I used was only 11"X17" (I think) paper and was all I could do but when you do get them just cut excess paper off and tape it then go to Kinkos or any large Office Supply and they can do them on one sheet like construction drawings which sould be enought for a templet or how ever you want to use it.

Toad

WOW Toad you realy can be nice.

Dave ( Pop’s to Toad )

Pops,

Yeah missed the Christmas where I was giving away stuff and all you had to do was put your name on the thread. GRM did not like it cause it was against the law here but I was just spreading cheer myself. Then there was a man from Down Under who needed a cog train and so several members checked around then I bought it and sent it to him, then he sent me my money back. All he needed was contacts, was all and now he has a LGB cog train! And last this Depot and I have more from that RR. but it was nothing.

That is what really what Garden Railwayn is about helping others out not just for money but to improve there layout and yours, because you never know when you get in a rut and need help.

There are people who will rip you off thou!

Toad

Joat,

Now you got Ole Toad by the back leg, which is the best viewer for the .DAE files?

Toad

Ash,

Hows that depot coming?
