Want to Know about Atlas C424 loco

I have just put on layaway at my LHS an Atlas C424. I have always known Atlas to be smooth running and reliable locomotives, at least from the ones that I have. it has, however, been quite some time since i’ve added an Atlas loco to my roster. I would like to “get the lowdown” on the newer releases of Atlas products, your experiences, pluses/ minuses and/or what to look out for etc. Your input will be helpful. Thanks.

Your going to be happy with your new C424. The best thing about newer Atlas loco’s is the new board that will allow you to plug in a decoder, it makes converting to DCC a 2 minute job. I picked up a few of these loco’s last year in CP colours and I’m very happy with them. I don’t run them much but when I do they purr like all Atlas loco’s do.

Watch out for the Trainman line though. Your still getting a Atlas loco but minus the majority of details. Don’t mix that line up with the Silver and Gold series loco’s.

Agreed. If you’re familiar with Atlas of past, you should have the same experience. They are still top notch and one of the top manufacturers in detail and quality.

I agree.

I have several of the C424’s. They are very smooth and quiet runners right out of the box and are some of the best locomotives made, IMHO. But like most Atlas locomotives, the shell removal takes some patience and the C424 handrails are quite thin. The handrails can be challenging to remove from the little holes.

You don’t really need me to back up what the others have said, but my Atlas C424 [H0] is the sweetest runner imaginable. I love it.
