I have a piston from a semi trucks diesel engine. Its about 5" wide. Next I would love to find a piston from a locomotive diesel engine. I know many of them are about 12" bore. Anyone have any ideas as to where I could get one near St.Paul area? Next will be to find a piston from a tugboat engine. I’ve read some of them have pistons much bigger than 12" bore.
Believe it or not, these things show up on Ebay regularly. You may need to specify what manufacturer in your search.
Depends what kind of tugboat…a lot of tugs carry EMD’s. I seem to also recollect that many of them had ALCo’s and Cooper Bessemers (forerunner of GE’s FDL engine).
You could see if you could pick up one of the pistons from one of these bad boys:

With a bore of 38", I suppose you could use it as a display stand for the other pieces in your collection!
I have a diesel engine piston from a International DT466 engine, out of a PECO Utilities truck. It’s 100 percent pure Alumininm (sp).
I too would like to know were I could get a piston out of a prime mover.
Try Independant locomotive in the Twin Cities.
