I was wondering if there is anyone interested in forming a new club in the Northern California Central Valley (Tracy, Modesto, Manteca. But mainly Tracy). I belong to other clubs, but would love to start a new one closer to home.
If we’re not able to start a club right away, then maybe meeting at the homes of existing layouts would work for the interim.
I can be contacted here, or at stephan102@sbcglobal.net for those who are interested or know somebody who might be. Thank You!
I’m not sure how effective posting a request to start a club here would be. Clubs, by nature, usually start with a group of individiuals that either share common interests or have a desire to want a larger layout than they can have at home (or maybe they don’t have one at all). There are probably many model railroaders in your area and some may be interested, they’re just not here on the trains.com forum reading this topic.
Suggestions: Rename topic to “looking to start a new club in the Tracy, CA area” as some folks won’t even open this thread becuase the headline doesn’t grab their interest. Get with you local NMRA Division, Sierra Division, Pacific Coast Region (http://www.pcrnmra.org/sierra/) to find other folks in the area. If you have local hobby shops, put flyers out. Finally, maybe a classified ad, either traditional in a paper or online in the communites in the area.
Thanks for the info I actually did all the steps you had listed, i just wanted to exploit all the avenues i could. I wanted to make sure this would be worth my time and effort. So far, i have a few people interested. Hopefully we can make this work!
Have you considered renting a table in a local train show? A few fliers made at Kinko’s would make a great handout at the show. I am assuming that any local modelers would pass through the show.
