Warning about Bachmann N scale auxiliary water tender for the N&W Class J

I got one of these the other day, to display along with my Class J. Looks great, but I’ve noticed a rather serious problem. Bachmann’s copy claims that the tender has “operating directional lighting.” In reality, it does NOT. There are no lights in the tender, nor do the wheels have any electrical pickup! This sounds like false advertising to me. (In addition, the railfan paint scheme doesn’t match up exactly with the scheme on the locomotive; the print is a bit larger and brighter on the tender.)

I just thought I’d give the rest of the community a heads-up; of course, this may be old news to some, but it’s still relevant, since Bachmann’s copy is still incorrect on their website and catalogs.

Why don’t you tell Bachmann?

Just a thought…

Already have.

Easier to kvetch-----

might have been that the dang labelling was wrong.[sigh]

Whoever runs Bachmann’s web site probably just copied the description of the HO scale version, which does have a backup light LED.

Well, I can’t speak for Bachmann or the N scale version of this item. But the HO version does indeed have working directional lighting - and is a nicely detailed model.

It’s weird. For some reason, I feel like I’m in a time warp and have just watched Les Nessman of “WKRP In Cincinnati” do the news. Only it’s not quite as funny as when the turkeys were dropped from a helicopter over a shopping center. “Oh, the humanity”.
