warning label on box

there is a warning label on the athearngenesis mech. reefer with sound that says it contains chemicals that is known to cause cancer and other problems in the state of california what is it the paint or glue? I’am scared!rambo1…

Is the label on the box or on the reefer? If it is on the box then the box should not be eaten.

If it references the product, then I suspect that the solder and other components of the decoder are bad if you eat them.

Maybe living in California can cause cancer [;)]

Cancer is caused by cruelty to white rats.

CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THE STATE [California] TO CAUSE CANCER OR REPRODUCTIVE TOXICITY

Update from May 2013.

Rambo. The air you breath contains chemicals known to cause suffocation in high concentrations, the water you drink can cause drowning if it enters the body improperly, and any food that youneat can can cause death by choking. You may even insert a thermometer filled with toxic mercury into your mouth or your food, and may have lightbulds containing small quantites of this same substance above your head. If your house was built before 1970, it may contain asbestos, a known carcinogen. FWIW, there are probably only a half dozen or so substances in the universe that are NOT known to cause cancer or other problems in the state of California. These chemixals are harmful in other states, and countries for that matter, but the rest of us, being a little smarter than the average Californian, don’t obsess about it quite so much. Seriously, though, most products are perfectly safe if used in a manner consistent with their intended use and design specifications. Yes, if there is lead solder or solvent based paints or adhesives in your model, either could be the cause of that warning. Similarly, the fumes of melted plastic are usually toxic. So, yes, if you’re planning to convert your model into an air freshener or eating utensil, heed the warnings. If you’re going to extensively modify it, wear PPE. If you’re just going to run it on your model railroad, relax and enjoy it.

Golly, apparently our action heroes are not quite up to maintaining the old image, having fought their way through the Cold War’s backwaters – only to be stymied by a sticker from the State of California. Retirement is heck![;)]

If you want the real reason for the silly labels is that it inhibits litigation, all leases out here now contain such clauses and they list any potential liability. Buildings are now posted with warnings. Anytime there is a lawsuit in the state for some frivolous thing, a new warning is added to prevent it happening again. On another note, if you drink too much water at one time you can die (electrolyte imbalance), it happened at a local radio contest!

i don’t like that either. rambo1…

to the rats or any animals that is

look where i work aircraft company aluminum dust and chemicals everywhere i’d better retire soon. rambo1…

at least i get to watch a few go trains go by i the morning to brighten the day. It pays good ! rambo1…

What if the label is composed of hazardous ingredients? Do they need to put a label on the label?

yeh true

look at all the road salt they throw into our drinking water rambo1…

The way stuff is labeled, I’d think that EVERYTHING is known to cause cancer by the state of California.[(-D]

Seriously though, it’s almost certainly the paint. Could be glue, but a lot of models from manufacturers are press-fit and/or held in place with screws.

It probably means that you shouldn’t eat it or be in prolonged contact with it. Works great if you weather your cars with unsealed pastels.[:P]

S&S

Every thing is known to cause cancer in the State of California. To keep the greenie police off their case manufacturers put the warning label on everything, just in case.

DING DING DING! We have a winner! [(-D]

As with many things in this discussion, sodium chloride is necessary for good health within certain limits. Excessive use is not. However, I would not put calcium chloride on my potatos at dinner tonight
