Warning to those going to WGH in San Diego--eat first!

The Del Mar Fairground show vending is absolutely the worst I’ve maybe ever had. I don’t expect gourmet at these things, but I went to the train show last month and the food was foul and of course overpriced.

You’ve been warned.

This is standard fare at most train shows etc. I usually eat the bare minimum at those events. Hot dogs, cheeze whiz nacho cheese and chips, cheap pizza slices. The usual.

It would be interesting to have an exhibitor, who ate the same item at each location (slice of pizza or hot dog) rank the food. I’m sure we’d be at the top!

Why buy food when you can spend it on another loco?(and probably save money)[;)]

That’s a good one, Loathar! But you’re right, why waste money on horribly overpriced fast food when that money could go toward a new toy. [:D]

Eat before you go to the show so you’re not tempted to squander your money on such trivial items as food.

The fare that some of these food vendors serve is no better than chewing on an old Athearn rolling stock box, except that the empty box may have more nutritional value.

Well at least the food at the upcoming Big “E” Springfield, MA show isn’t all that bad and reasonably priced. Can eat and still have some $$ left for trains, or is it the other way around.

I would agree about the West Springfield show food is edible, and the only way i can get my kids to go.If you are coming from far away there are plenty of decent places to eat outside the bigE.

I don’t go to a restaurant looking for trains either. [:D]

MOST 'EXHIBITOR SHOW food is supplied by Vendor bid , and the high bid costs are passed on to the ‘captive’ customers. When exhibiting at McCormick Place in Chicago, we would go to a nearby hotel or restraunt for ‘decent’ food.

Del Mar Fairgrounds probably has the same problem.

One of the BEST Mexican Restraunts I’ve ever eaten at was ‘Tony’s Jacal’ in nearby Solana Beach (off of I-5). Prices were very reasoable, too, but Call for directions.
