I recently purchased two Walthers R.J. Frost Cold storage kits. These are from the current run not old kits. Both kits have wraped or bowed walls. Does any one have a almost fool proof method of flatening out the wall without ruining them. I know that some combination of heat and weight would flaten them out but I not sure what would work.
This is assuming there’s some reason you can’t return the kits for replacement:
Probably the safest way is to get two flat pieces of plate glass (no tint) that are about 50% larger than the kit pieces to be flattened. Place one of the wall sections in question between the glass pieces and lay it out in the sun for a while. Check it about every 15 minutes. Once it’s flat, do NOT remove it yet. Take the whole thing back in the house and let it cool while still between the pieces of glass. Once it’s cool you can remove it and repeat for other wall sections.
If the walls are thin enough, they will probably straighten out when you glue the kit together. You may need to add some interior structure and bracing, like a second-story floor.
Of course, this suggestion could be just another sneaky way to get you started on interior detailing of the building.
