If you work for a railroad, what is the process in your area for cleaning the front cab windows on your locomotives? There is a trend starting where employees are not to get up on top of the nose of units to clean windows, replace wipers, headlights, or numberboard lights unless you are wearing “fall protection.” One side note to this can be found within a mechanical facility with no “fall protection” available. A mechanical supervisor will give a verbal job briefing to the mechanical employee prior to he/she ascending the nose of the unit to do any one of the jobs mentioned above. Any feedback from across the country would be appreciated. Thank you,
we are not supposed maybe not allowed to do it but the things are most generaly filthy and i wont stand for it, they will be cleaned before i pull. i want to see and a clean windshield makes it easier on the eyes late in the morning to finish the run. so if need be ill climb up there and clean all the glass including the head lights and ditch lights
we have fall prevention harnesses that must be put on before anyone is allowed up above handrail high.
Last time I cleaned locomotive windows, it was with a scrubber with a long extension handle.
