Washington DOT issues request for information for ‘Amtrak Cascades’ service improvements
I swear I saw a special on CNN how Washington & Amtrak spent BILLIONS on HSR and other improvements on this corridor, yet they want more $? It is so sorry how the govt wastes money!! Florida killed HSR because of the WA & CA HSR debacle, now FEC is moving right along here in FL, maybe we will be a model maybe we wont. But at least FEC stepped up to the plate unlike bigger roads whose profits are 10 times more than FEC. Maybe I just wrote this to remind people that we will NEVER have a national high speed rail system, NEVER!!! There is not enough interest as a whole nation and there’s not enough money in this solar system to build it, only envy, a few of us in this country, how we lack vs. Europe and Japan. We were supposed to be the example, now were just the gawkers, The only people making out are the private companies ripping the govt off, BUT I could be wrong!!!
Just a couple of picky corrections: the first paragraph states that Washington has “issued a request for proposals.” As clarified elsewhere in the article what Washington has issued is a request for information. Regarding the use of “Amtrak Cascades,” the three regional services in California are collectively known as “Amtrak California.”
Question: Who owns the right of way for the Amtrak Cascades? If its owned by a freight railroad(s), will they permit another passenger train service to operate on their tracks? If not, then what?
