Cool!
WMTA silver Line could carry 50% more riders had they provided parking spaces for riders’ autos. What retail store operation provide for NO parking for their customers??
I was there when the first segment opened in 1976 and had the opportunity to take a ride on the then new system ride.
Mr. Lukin: Prior to my retirement I lived in Vienna, taking the WMATA Orange line to work. By 7 a.m., just about every parking space between Falls Church and Vienna was occupied. The situation did not change much when the Vienna station got a modest parking garage. I wonder whether improvements in feeder lines (bus, tram) would help things; there is some bus service, but the headways are too high. (I rated this 4, as it would be improved by pictures and a map)
Also to Mr. Lukin, look at google maps areal view and find places for these parking garages. It’s a pretty dense area, which is actually ideal for transit. To make the best use of combined car/transit trips, build parking garages at places people can drive to easily from nearby and distant locations, and then use transit through the densely populated areas to get where they’re going.
But is it faster than a silver bullet?
