Washington Metro places fire department liaison at its Rail Control Center
Inter-agency and inter-industry communication and coordination in emergency situations is always a challenge, especially in the first minutes of an event. I’m sure this initiative isn’t cheap, but having a line of communication already open between Metro and the FD before an incident can only help. Although we all hope the new arrangement isn’t put to a serious test any time soon, it will be interesting to see how the FD liaison position evolves over time and with accumulated experience.
