Need some suggestions as to what color paint to use when painting water column spouts. I am modeling the PRR in the early 50’s. When I do come across a rare color photo showing a water column I cannot figure out if its black, dirty battleship gray, or a PRR distinct color. Thanks for any advice!!
The easiest thing to do, is look at prototype photos. I am certain that there is a historical society for PRR that would have the information that you seek[:)]. Failing that, I would airbrush the water column a dark or light gray. Then use grimy black for weathering and later, pastel chalks that are black and rust colored. Seal it with Testors Dulcote[;)]
There used to be a PRR yard and passenger station in downtown Toledo, OH. There was a PRR water tank and a couple of penstocks on the main on either end of the passenger station. They were painted black just prior to their removal.
