Water Effects color leaching

I used Realistic Water to create a lake on a small N scale layout I have been building. I painted the plywood base with multiple layers of acrylics. I have the lake essentially outlined in plaster molded rock set in wall board compound, and a sloping upwards shoreline/beach in one area. The beach area is sculpted pink styro board painted in acrylics with some brown gravel (fine ballast) scenic cemented to it. I poured my first layer very thin and 24 hours later poured a 2nd layer. When I poured the second started seeing white clouding and seemingly pooling of what looks like white glue in different places. There is no particular area some even showed up in the center. It is slowing dissapperaing but for a while I thought I was losing the whole lake. What gives?

There was a discussion a shirt while back about tinting Envirotex lite what a lot of modelers commonly use for water and I got it straight from Envirotex that the say to use only acrylic paints to tint the Envirotex and for scenery etc. another member posted that another brand which may have been W/S real water recommended using oil base paints. Best thing is to contact the company and ask them sounds like your either having some sort of chemical reaction or could the white glue etc. just not be dry long enough?

Personally, I would suggest that you make your water proof base of Hydrocal plaster. I prime the plaster and then paint the center of the river with acrylic paint, with the edges blending into sand color. W/S Water Effects does not leach, if you do it this way. I use Magic Water, but Envirotex is just as good. For large harbors I paint the smooth side of random patterned door plastic (the sheets can be scribed and snapped in straight lines to fit the harbor area.) Bob Hahn

Additional pours often dry cloudy initially, but, at least on my layout, they clear in a few days.
