I found a picture in an old Diesel Era of a Cargill locomotive that I want to build but the trouble is I need to make some decals for it. Does anyone know what the best system on the market is for making water slide decals ? I dont really want to go through a custom decal company unless I have too.
Are you talking about scanning logo’s and such, and then printing them onto decal paper? Or are you talking about creating some using Microsoft Painter or something? The reason I ask is that I might be able to help if you are using a Microsoft program, but I don’t know a thing about using a scanner.
Whatever the case, when I did mine I used Experts Choice brand film and they came out great. I have a laser printer and the part # forthe clear sheet is #123 and the white sheet is #126. Use Micoscale Liquid Decal Film to seal them (#127). They came out great and I made a bunch of sheets and not one got hung up in my printer.
well when I find the right decal making kit I am going to create all the artwork for the locomotive using AutoCad 2000 and Paint shop pro 7, then print them out on my ink jet. I thought about trying Testors decal system but some of their product line is sub-standard. Is there a website for Experts Choice?
Testors has a small inexpensive decal making kit. It comes with two half sheets of decal paper - 8-1/2" by 5-1/2", one clear and one with a white film. It has a small can of spray protectant that you apply to the completed injet decals. I got mine at Wal-Mart for under $8.00. A great way to experiment. Micro Mark also sells kits.
I’ve used the Testors sealent on Micro-Mark paper. It works well. Although, I had to be becareful, when I sealed the first sheet, I put the sealer on to heavy, and all the decals ran. Several light coats, is better then a few heavy ones.
I just tryed Vitacal water slide kit. when i put on the decals the ink looked like it cracked and looked weathered. I tryed clear and white film. I’m doing this on a inkjet. what would i be doing wrong? or is it the kit.
