Waterloo,In Fatal Accident

While looking for information referencing another thread here ( The Ralston,Ia. collision between a UP Train and a privately owned locomotive) I happened to find this story.

I hesitate to post something as tragic, particularly since it was not a grade crossing violation or another act of trespass.

It was apparently a fluke happening(?) The vehicle was northbound on I-69 and apparently veered into the median went down an embankment and wound up on the NS RR line on which a NS train was moving. The details and specifics are in the linked story.

The story and photo are on the linked article from the Livingston Daily.com website above.

The resultant deaths were the Mother and three daughters who were apparently returning to their home area of Howell, Mi. An infant boy survived with a broken leg.

Waterloo, In is in DeKalb County which is just north of the Ft.Wayne area, and south of the Michigan-Indiana line area.

You have to really feel for the crew of the NS Train. Who where just doing their jobs and fate drops an automobile in front of them. They must have been at or near track speed because the article says it took about a 1/2 mile to stop and the car was apparently rolled along in front of the engine and wound up on it’s’ top in front of the locomotive when it stopped…
