What is the difference between a Way freight and a local freight train?
Probably none. Unless crews on your prototype had reasons for using the two phrases for specific types of trains, they are interchangeable terms for the same thing.
It might be a regional thing. Around here on the B&O and the PRR (and PC, CR) they were generally called locals.
