WAY OFF TOPIC (Like... miles) cats or dogs?

Forgive me please Bergie… I’m just intrigued to know… given the glee with which solutions to cats are always offered… how many RR modellers have cats and how many have dogs?

I’d like to combine my neighbor’s yappy dogs with the railroad tracks down the road just before the train comes through…

oh, wait - that would be REAL railroading. Sorry. My bad.

I would vote for the Skunkape, if there were a category for it.

I have a 1200 Gallon Saltwater Reef tank. It is full of live coral and has clams that are almost 13" long. I also have a 120 gallon freshwater tank that has nothing but Red Bellie Pirannah in it. I only feed the Pirannah once a week. The other tank needs a lot more attention.

I have a pair of tanks and a pair of cats…18 and 25 gallon freshwater tanks, and a pair of cats.

Currently I’m down to a Siamese fighting fish (Betta) in a bowl that fits inside a small container that looks like a T.V. My kids complain that my T.V. is broke cuz all they can ever get is the fish channel. Ho Ho ![:D]
I lost custody of my Maine Coon kitty in the divorce, but I will get another. [V]
I still laugh at comedian Bill Engvall who said, Some guys like dogs because they want buddies who are dumber than they are!!! [(-D][(-D]

I have 3 kitty cats. Or should I say I inherited 3 cats. The first tow are brothers that my dad had raised (tamed, feed, looked after) on his back porch the summer before he died. He found them when they were only about a day old. In a moment of weakness wqhen dad was upset over what would happen to the kittens, I told him “if all else fails, dad, I will take Blackie (the runt of the litter and his favorite)”. Of course what he heard was, “I will take Blackie”. So he eventually came to my house and imediately stole my heart. Later his brother Manet (after the French painter) ended up at my house also (he is the sweetest thing on four legs). The two of them are now 5 years old and still wrestle and play together, groom each other and are great friends. THEN! Enter Shiela, my Mothers cat. My Mom passed away last year and her dying request was that I take Shiela to my house to live… Now Blackie is 16 lbs., Manet tops the scale at just under 18 lbs., and Sheila wieghs just under 8 lbs. and is an old kitty. Guess who rules the roost around here. Blackie is terrified of her. Manet puts up with her insolence for about 3 weeks at a time, then beats the $#!^ out of her. Then peace ensues for another 3 weeks or so.

I also have two tanks of tropical fish. A 55 gal. and a 20 high.

I went with dogs because to me they’re the least amount of trouble to deal with. As long as they have food, water, something to chew on and a house to get in out of the rain, they’re content. The cat does his own thing - but not in my train room… I also have three baby pigeons I’ve been taking care of for a couple of weeks which are going back to the area they came from as soon as they’re big enough to fend for themselves.
In spite of all these critters I still manage to keep my trains a moving…

My kids adopted an orange tabby last summer, she appeared to be starving - probably owned by an elderly person who passed away. She was skin and bones at first, now she’s like a walking basketball . She is not allowed anywhere near the trainroom, let alone in it. I’m allergic to cat dander, so I rarely ever touch her, except when she’s begging for attention - afterwards I wash my hands pronto!

I don’t mind cats, as long as they stay on thier own property. What I’ve come to despise is cat owners who think it’s alright to let kitty roam the neighborhood. For Those cats, I have something…

Charlie has passed on so now the job belongs to Melvin.

cats for me , they’re more like companions than pets

you did forget to include “Other” as a choice …

I love my dog Comet, so I had to vote dogs of course!

Nothing but dogs, 4 of them. They keep my company in the train room and show my wife the latest color of paint I am using by rubbing their fur in it! I had to stop putting the train around the Christmas tree though, one dog found out that a wet nose and electric train track don’t mix. At least he jumped AWAY from the tree!

I have one dog…a husky and she is no way associated with MRRing at all…in fact she will not be allowed in the train room …all that sheading and pieces of hair everywhere can play havoc on the models…she has the run of the house inside and out , but the trainroom building is off limits…chuck

One more tank, or cat. You will have a Full House.

got a cat and a kitten, the kitten just likes to sit next to me in the train room, keeping company… had a dog but our yard was way to small for a dobermann… ironically if didn’t buy him as a pup, he was going to a U.S army base in Guam…

I used to have a 5 1/2 foot Iguana, She died a few months ago.

Dogs for me.
We have a English springer spaniel,
he’s my gun dog.
My wife has a German German Shepherd dog.
That is to say her german shepherd is from Germany.
We also have 3 fi***anks and a cockatiel and a parrot.
Thats enough pets I figure!

I didn’t vote because there was not a category for “both” (2 cats and a dog). The cats are both Calicos - my new wife brought the oldest cat (Callie) with her when we got coupled up two years ago; the youngest (Chessie) we figure is about nine months old and we acquired her through the benevolence of my daughter-in-law who thought another cat was just what we needed. The dog is a pure-bred Bichon Frise bee-eye-tea-sea-aitch (have to spell it out because these idiotic text censors won’t let me call a female canine what a female canine is, namely a bee-eye-tea-sea-aitch - guess I could have gone “btch like they used to do with words like "hll” - and others - in the good old days before Miller’s Tropic of Cancer) who also came with my wife and which is called simply Bichon (my wife’s knowledge of French being rather limited.)

The two cats are definitely from different stocks. The oldest is very trim and short-haired; I call her Madame Queen because, until we got this new kitty last fall, she sat on the throne around here - when she growled everyone genuflected. The youngest is long-haired; I have taken to calling her Paddlefoot because her paws seem a little too large for her body. She’s a little smaller than the oldest cat but is stockier and, therefore, weighs more.

The Bichon Frise is a companion; when we go in the car she cuddles up in your lap and that’s where she stays. I’ve got a lot of cowhand in me and dogs and cats belonged outdoors - I never had a “pet” in my life. Notice the “…ed” on the end of that highlighted word. When you are 64 and marry for the second time you have to make some compromises in your life. People used to ask me if I liked cats; I would respond by saying, “I love cats!!I just don’t have any real good recipes!!” I was never very near and dear to the cat-lover crowd!!Oh, if they could see me now!!

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Love them all, but, i do prefer cats. But, sometimes you need a pooch to play with.
