Its pretty sweet,

If little Billy from Family Circus routes it we can all see it and it will be ready for a rebuild at the end of its trip.

When 3985 came to St.Paul 2 years ago I saw it all but one day that it was here.

I’m IN!

How about YOU?

The most interesting result of this in my opinion will be the final routing chosen. Hopefully, the UP will choose a routing that includes lots of areas where the 844 and 3985 have not run before.

I was fortunate to see the 3985 when it came into the Memphis area on its run to play its roll as the Clinchfield’s Challenger # 676 in 11/1992 on CSX’s Christmas Train.

Many said that whole event could never happen (ie: cooperation between CSX and UP(?) IT DID! and it was really a high water mark among the railfan community. Maybe this new promotion will be more of the same.

UPRR has done many events that have garnered itself all kinds of good will among the general public as well as the railfan community. Events that have featured the Steam Power of the UPRR with that of other groups to create memorable Photo Ops, and publicity for the UPRR that most likely could not be bought.

Note: You MUST register on the UP Site provided in the first response.

Wish them success with this new promotion!

Vote MEMPHIS. That is as close UP comes to the southeast. It is still about a 4 hour drive from where I live. That will be the only chance I will have to see the 844 under steam.

Vote MEMPHIS

Streator IL would not be bad either why. UP has Running rights on the BNSF and I know the people here would get a huge Kick out of seeing either of those 2 engines here.

Altoona, Wisconsin!!

UP NEVER sends us anything. Fun fact. Out of all the heritage units on UP’s system, ONLY 1995 has ever seen Altoona. I think this city really deserves to see some steam or something good for once!

Why does UP hate it here…>_<

I voted for Joliet, we have a nice new intermodal yard and a historic train station for 3985 to visit! Vote for Joliet here!

Vote for Villa Park IL! We are in second place and hoping to get to first!

Thanks!!

OK,#### Now to add a "Paul Harvey, Rest of the Story’ Element and wriit the finish to this UPRR Contest!#### I realize, that this story started last year 2010 in November. Just recently I found a Wall Street Journal story covering the winners; what they got, as the winners of the contest to “Choose Where the UP Steam Program Goes” Train routing contest.# “When a Gulfstream V Just Won’t Do, Try Riding Like a Rail Baron”## “Fans Get Peek Inside Corporate Trains That Carry Executives; ‘Palace’ or ‘Office’?” By BARRY NEWMAN#### link to article:http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303936704576399703228643980.html?mod=WSJ_Ahed_AutomatedTypes

FTA: "…Mr. O’Connor, 55 years old, fixes radiators at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. In his other life, he’s a railroad romantic. Not long ago, he competed in a Union Pacific social-media contest and won a five-day ride from St. Louis to Little Rock behind a steam locomotive. He didn’t know that the UP had decided, at long last, to let a few humble rail fans make the run in a car with a permanent “private” sign on its door.

Neither did Skip Waters, who was sitting on a Chippendale chair at the Feather River’s dining-room table. Mr. Waters, 48, gives toy-train rides to kids in Dallas. A trip on this train got him down on one knee to propose to Cindy Collins, his guest and girlfriend…."

Talk about your CHRISTMAS COMING TWICE IN A YEAR!
