Well i took the plunge and decided to weather some of my non running engines. It went surprisingly easy. I followed the steps in the Kalbach book on weathering steam engine and also took artistic license. Than i got really brave and weatherd my CP Diesel and was rewarded with a 120.00 sale on ebay. I must say that the diesels are much easier to weather. I guess with diesels everything is easier [;)]
My wife can’t seem to understand why i am taking a perfectly fine engine and making it dirty, and really i can’t either, but it sure is fun.
Please feel free to comment on my work i would like to know if it is worth continuing, or if im not seeing the true light and to please stop ruining a perfectly good engine
I would say you definitely got the “hang” of it. They look great . I especially like the .
Your photos would look even better if you used a smaller aperture (higher f number) to get a bit more depth of field.
Your “embedded” digital info says you have a CEC camera, model DV. I am not familiar with that but it says you shot it in Aperture Priority f2.8 at 1/60th of a second exposure.
If you can use a longer exposure (with a tripod), and a smaller aperture (f8.0), you would get more depth of field.
They look great. I love the heavy weathering. A suggestion, add some MU hoses to both diesels. It will make them look a lot better. What did you use to weather them? The heated look on the FIRE BOX looks just right for a hard working steam engine. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the link…WOW i thought i was doing a good job, seeing those almost makes me want to hang up my airbrush. Those are super detial jobs. But i geuss we all start somewhere right?
Only problem with that site is when i tried to register it kept saying that my email address was banned, odd considering i have never been there before. No big deal i guess i can still look. Thanks again.
