Aside from the wiggly photo, it looks like you’re getting the hang of it. I like the exhaust stains on the top of the hood and around the grills. The top of the cab could use some grunge, though.
The rust around the sill looks good and subdued also.
Get a piece of white paper napkin, one without much texture, and see if you can replicate the tarp rolled up over the radiator.
Are you sure you’re the same guy with that gondola?[:D]
See if you can get a clearer picture of it. Throw a little more light on it, and sit the camera down on something and set the timer. That’ll clean up the shaky hand syndrome…
Lee
Yes i am that same guy with this well its more of what is that ?
[wow]

[#oops]
PS: fixed the pictures

I think its very good! from that prototype pic the rusty stack almost looks like a becon.
I like wm3798’s idea for the tarp, I will use that tecnique on a WC SW15 Im super detailing
Jeez from that gondola to this nice loco, wow, if you skills keep improving at this rate you could make a serious carreer out of this.

I see you used the prototype picture as a guide, good idea. Maybe it’s the lighting, but the proto unit seems to have a cleaner appearance than your model, i.e., no grunge on the sill stripe and the black paint on the trucks still looks like it was recently applied. Aside from that, your model looks quite good.
One thing to keep in mind: Yard locos don’t tend to get as filthy as over-the-road units, since they don’t have to go thru tunnels or run at 8th-notch to battle steep grades.
Here’s a link to a bunch of Conrail SW1500 photos, some of them are still wearing PC paint though: http://rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?id=CR&mid=78
so how did you go about weathering this?
I think you did a good job. I agree that the cab area could use a little more grime, but it looks like an engine thats only seen about a week of service.
It looks a lot better than your gon. I think the radiator screens could use some more black washes to get the look of the screens over the radiator core.
TJ,
Looking very, very good! You’re getting there! I think if you follow Lee’s suggestions, you’ll be all set.
What a difference in such a short time!
The improved pictures really show off the improved weathering technique! Aren’t you glad you practiced on a cheap gondola first!?!

On e thing I remember from my days running SW1500’s on the SP was that the cab roof became quite dirty and streaked over time. Your cab roof looks quite clean, something that probably would go with a relatively new in service unit, but if the thing’s been working in a yard for a while, that cab roof would show signs of wear and tear. Otherwise it looks good; brings back some memories.
Hey guys,
Thanks for everything, but for now no more weathering, i have to order new handrails and maybe in the future but a detailing kit. But for now i’m going to work on my layouts scenary.
Thanks again
