ok Aggro- I took the plunge and this is my first crack at weathering a steam locomotive. I chose my C&O Heavy Mountain as my guinie pig.
So everyone, and especially you Aggro (I really admire your weathering of Steam locos). How did I do? Good? Bad? ok? Go get a new one??? [:)] please share your thoughts.
Ah’yep you were smart enough to not use a heavy hand,A light coat of weathering is the smart way to go …you can aways add more if it seems appropriate but you can’t undo paint job gone wrong unless you start all over…GOOD JOB!
up_santsfe-
I used Airbrush and wet brush, and a little but not much “dry brush”
selector-
will do on that rust… [:)]
Aggro-
Your right J-2 were used for passenger service, and a little frieght I have a few photos of one (or two) pulling coal (no suprise) but in all the photos they were pretty darn dirty this one is suppose to be OLD. I run GP7’s and 9’s on my layout and by then most if not all steam was GONE on the C&O by the 50’s to 60 so it needed to look a little worse for wear.
Thanks everyone for all your feedback and encouragement, I’ll post photos of my
2-6-6-2 and mike when I get them weathered.
Great books for modelers I also reccommend “C&O Frieght and Passenger Equipment in color” also a great reference for the C&O modeler. You can get them (insert sales pitch here) at the C&O Historical Society
