Weathering a structure

I found it works well to sort of lean the building on it’s side so that the drippings and weathering run realistically down. The steeper the angle the faster it runs. This an O Scale hydrocal structure.

Another view.

Very nice; yes, put gravity to work for you.

That would be perfect, for a Military diorama, I am working on…Good Job!!

Cheers,

Frank

That’s the best looking piece of modeling I’ve seen, great job on weathering, just great, is that a kit? and what is the end result, or is it just a wall?

It is a soon to be released kit called Metals Bank.

I got some of the laser cut parts today & got a little more work done. The facade is not glued in place yet.

Hello DowntownDeco,

Great work as usual. I like your kits. How did you achieve such a nice defined edge where the old plaster meets the brick?

Was driving thru the high desert of Oregon on Hwy 97 headed for the Columbia River gorge this summer and snapped this photo when taking a break in the little town of Moro. I love the old buildings, so much character and history. This old defunct television shop reminded me of your Hardware store kit of which I have one, as yet unbuilt, but I plan to have my kit as a bicycle shop.

looks like the place i used to live, before i fell on hard times.

Cool pic! I like that it was built on a hill. We need to model that more often.

I did the stucco by creating a “sub master” of the wall & cut out a .010 skin of Evergreen styrene. I then made a rubber mold of that, made a copy & then was able to add all of the funky detail to the crumbled stucco. Cheers.

Great stuff!

We plan on adding a whole part of our layout using Addams and Blair ave kits plus some of your other stuff. We recently created a city scene of skyscrapers, now it’s time to do the back streets. I’ll try this method as the scene progresses.

I’m a little closer to getting the pilot model done. The rusty corrugated material is actually a photo of real rusty siding off an old lumber mill here in Montana. I’m really digging the way this one is turning out, I was really able to get a lot of detail into the O Scale castings. Check out the laser cut bullet hole in the glass.

This should work well for me as I am pretty much run down any way.
