Weathering Code 100 Track

Hi,

I read Jeff Wilson’s article on weathering track and had a question for you all. He mentions trying three different colors of Krylon spray paint (Brown 8142, Med. Brown 8147, Ruddy Brown Primer 1317). I am curious to know if anyone else has done this and which color worked out for them?

Thanks,

Kevin

Use all three and some black. I used a few (3) cans of Floquil and sprayed the track after it was down (and only the side that could be viewed from a normal angle.)

If you spray the track before you lay it, bare spots will show in the curves (at least).

Later you can add rust and other “highlights” with a brush.

Have fun,

I use rustoleum ruddy brown primer. It sometimes comes up red in photos but generaly I am satisfied with it. To see some photos go to www.photobucket.com/albums/b254/lesterperry/

Use Gray primer and then brush on a mixture of india ink and rubbing alchohol.

How do you weather where greasers are?

I mix the spraying of all three colors as well as doing individual ties. I do recommend doing the painting after the track is placed. I use a piece of cardboard for over spray. It also prevents shine once the track is placed if you paint it while straight. The other advantage is you only paint what shows.

I used all three colors as described by Jeff and and was relatively happy with the results. The fumes were overpowering since there was no window close by. I used hair clipper oil and a small foam bru***o lightly coat the tops of the rails before painting and then wiped down the rails with paper towel or cloth. Any paint that is missed can be taken off with a bright boy pad. Make sure that you have all your feeder wires soldered to your rails before painting. Otherwise it is hard to get solder to adhere to the rails.
