I tried this in a different forum, but I thought that this forum might be a better place. I have the Walthers Rolling Mill and I am going to weather the inside before I complete the construction. I was thinking about a light coat of black on the floor and some rust on the girders. For those of you who don’t know what the mill looks like on the inside, here’s a pic: http://community.webshots.com/photo/109373438/237027795fcIhRa
Thanks,

Having spent over 30 years in the steel industry I can tell you that rolling mills are kept as clean as possible. Twenty five years ago there were some that were never cleaned that had scale build up in the aisles but with the emphasis on quality today that era is long gone. ALL rolling mills have concrete floors with the major colorant being oil. They are power washed with the quivalent of a fire hose and sweepers so a splotchy floor with light oil stains is what you want. Each mill has its own color standard for the walls. Several use flat black some use dark oxide red. I’ve also seen light blue and white which doesn’t hold up well at all. The actual roll line and stands are also painted. usually whatever color the builder used with light green a fairly common color for United mills. Mesta when they were around used light blue and there are some that are dark blue.
Thanks, that’s exactly what I was looking for.
