On the rochelle cam it says UP to Proviso.Where is Proviso? I cannot find a listing on any map.Also why when you log on to the web cam ,you still have to click webcam again?

It should be close to if not in Chicago.
It is not near Chicago at all. It is either west of Geneva, or imbetween Rochelle and Dekalb. I don’t know. If their is a moderator or someone who designed the web-cam, they can answere.
Proviso Yard is the UP’s big yard in Chicago. It can been seen off of Highway 294 just past the I-290 interchange on the right side. It is hte CNW’s old yard for the area I should know after pulling out of global 2 for a couple months. Global 2 is on the grounds of Proviso yard.
Well, that shut me up.
Proviso yard is just a few miles east of Elmhurst, IL and is the old C&NW yard. It aslo used to have what was called “The Falcon’s Nest” where the C&NW used to make up their famous intermodal “Falcon” trains to interchange with the UP out west.

Hmmmmm…“the right side”…doesn’t that depend on which direction you are travelling on the highway?..My map shows I-294 .a.k.a. “Tri State Tollway”, going north and south thru that area. If you are going north, the right side is east of the highway, but if you are going south, the right side is on the west side of the highway. If I remember right, it is mostly west of I-294. I used to drive a semi truck on that highway and was always wondering what I was seeing down below from the highway overpass. I always wanted to stop and watch the activity below, but that wasn’t a very safe or practical thing to do on that very busy highway, especially in an 18-wheeler! .Anyway, I think I just found out what I was seeing! P.S. I don’t drive a truck anymore, but I still watch trains!!..and ride Amtrak, too. [:)]
Couple of corrections that you can take from a guy who has worked at Proviso for a third of a century…
Proviso is east of I-294. A regular road map won’t show it, because there is no city or village named Proviso. It actually sits in Melrose Park, Northlake, Bellwood, Berkeley, Franklin Park, and just a little bit of Elmhurst. I have no problem walking the mile or two from downtown Elmhurst to my worksite near the top of the hump, which is barely visible from the passing commuter trains.
Eolafan, the Falcons originated at Wood Street, which is much closer in to the city (the south end of CNW’s Rockwell Sub). That is now known as Global One.

Have passed there mant times and into and through all of the Windy.Had a warehouse for the company i drove for that sits right by the Rochelle X,i’d try to sleep there and always wondered if i was near a freight yard.now i know why.
AHHH…Elmhurst, I love sitting in the town center at the tracks just watching the UP come and go from Provisio. Its a great train watching spot. In the warmer weather, they have a great ice cream shop across the street from the METRA station.
Now I ask you, what could be better then watching trains pound past you and enjoying a milkshake (frappe for us New Englanders) or a great ice cream sundae! Oh to be in Elmhurst

There are now two good ice cream places in Elmhurst, one on each side of the tracks. And a great hobby shop nearby. Trackside benches (some actually in the shade!), a control point with signals to watch, places to get good food of almost any variety, convenient commuter train service, and–if you’re lucky–friendly, helpful railfans. Watch out for the crazy guy going through there on a bike (in good weather) and wearing a large backpack! [;)]
