iwould like to have my own web site so i can show photos of my trains and show construction of my new layout… any suggestions… peter
go to www.freewebs.com and set up an account, my website can be seen at www.freewebs.com/skeeter3/
First of all, get a “web master” and get an account at a website like cheese3 listed above, and basically, it’ll just roll from there.
Getting free web space is one option, though you could see if your ISP has web space that comes with your internet account. Baring those 2 options, you can always contact a web hosting company, there are a million out there. I used to actually own one, but sold out just recently. Prices will range from $8.00 a month to $20.00 or higher, though you would never need those feaures. You would then need to learn how to make a web page, which is pretty easy now a days, Front Page (which I don’t like or use) is pretty easy to master and then you can build that new RR web site… [:p]
Hire me! No seriously, if you just want to post pictures, the free hosters will work just fine. If you think you want to get away from ads and have more functionality (like a database), then look at web hosting companies. As dthurman said, Front Page is the easiest to start out on your own, but, I assume like him, I don’t like it for many reasons, mostly that it won’t do what I want it to and half the time I don’t know what it is trying to do, but I do advanced web programming and Front Page is designed for people who just want to create simple, static pages, which it sounds like thats all you need.
If you dont mind ads on the page, geocities has free web hosting. for each yahoo screen name you have, you get 15 meg of free web space through geocities. It is very simple to use. If you start to run out of space, then create a new yahoo name and link from the main page. Its pretty much endless web space. It is very easy to use. They have a web page builder built right into the page, so its pretty much just upload photo’s, add text and instant web page. If you want to get into the more sophisticated side, using html coding, you can do that as well. hope you have good luck with the page and please post a link when you get one made…medic
