Good Day All
We are new to the hobbie and am looking for websites to use as a refferences while starting. Topics like layout, making a set realistic and I would realy like to find a site with a large selection of H.O scale vehicals especialy emergancy vehicals. The more detailed the products the better. We plan on starting small of course to get into the swing of things but I have plans to build a large very detaild MRR.
Thank You kindly
When it comes to vehicles, I use http://www.walthers.com/
Welcome aboard. I think you’ve already found the best single site - this one. If you read through the posts, you’ll find a lot of tidbits and links which can lead to other great sites.
If you have a Local Hobby Shop (LHS) nearby, take a look at the collection of books and magazines. Kalmbach Publishing in particular has a lot of very good books on layout planning and design. They may seem a bit pricey, but they really are a cost saving if they keep you from making just one mistake.
Take a look at www.railimages.com for ideas. This is a photo-hosting site which caters to railroads. A lot of modellers use it to display their layout pictures. The forum you’re reading now does NOT host photos, so we put our pictures on hosting sites like Rail Images and link to them to get pictures into our posts.
Sylvan Scale Models at http://www.isp.ca/sylvan/product.htm is one supplier of vehicles. There are a lot more.
This site and the NMRA site (nmra.com) both have excellent tutorials for beginners.
[#welcome] to the forum!
Here’s one I bet you’ll like:
The 1:87 Vehicle Club [:p] ( http://www.1-87vehicles.org )
[#ditto]
I’m a member there also, they have links on their link page of course, to all sorts of model vehicle manufacturers and dealers. I enjoy the vehicle side of the railroad hobby as much as the railroad. And as you’ll hear alot , read read read, There is a lot to learn in this hobby and people here will help you alot.
Two sites for info on model RR building that I currently like are
http://www.all-model-railroading.co.uk/amr/index.htm
and
http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/
They are not chock full of vehicles but they will help you get the railroad part of your layout started.
And if you have the time to follow along, my own site MIGHT help. Or it might not. I am trying to show how to start a layout at the moment and to plan ahead.
I hope this helps you and remember to have fun. [:D]
