Hi. I need some weed sprayer train info for a future modeling project. The summer 2006 Classic Trains has a photo of a portion of a Soo weedsprayer train on the top of page 57. I model the U.P. but I figure this train is probably typical of most weed sprayer trains. Does anyone have any info to support or refute this notion of mine? What are the rest of the cars that would normally be a part of this train? Would it have been run with the loco pushing or pulling? Does anyone have a link that has photos of weed sprayer trains? I have searched, but haven’t found anything really useful. Thanks for the help.
Mike
Have a look through these pictures-

Thanks for the link Dale.
Yeah, these are some good pictures.
I haven’t seen the picture you are talking about. I have been on several spray trains that had a converted box car much like the one in Dale’s link above, but with spray booms that would swing out as much as 90 degrees. This was followed by several tank cars carring the spray mixture. We usually pushed these trains, however, I was on one that we did pull. Nowadays they use Hi-Rail vehicles to do the spraying!
Perfect. I found a picture on the link, taken in 1964, which shows an old wood side reefer that had been converted to a sprayer. That is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the info guys.
