Good morning from cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio, snow expected this evening.

Finished a couple of cars this week.

Gulf Mobile and Ohio 50’ PS1 Kadee Hydroframe kit substituting a Moloco 10’ PS Door for the kit door, painted with Scalecoat II CNW Green Paint and lettered with Dan Kolhbergs ICG Decals. Car was in general service on the GM&O and later ICG.

Exactrail 4427CF PS2 Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer White and lettered with Oddballs Decals which were made with the assistance of the SOO Line Historical Society for Accuracy, these were an early 80’s repaint scheme from the original paint scheme. Used in general grain service on the SOO.

Thanks for starting off WPF Rick. Good looking cars as usual. Nice photo of the coal drag and club layout.

Mike - Double headed steamers! My grandson would love it. Good photos of the layout too.

I’ve spent most of this week updating my website. It took much too long, but is finally finished, for now.

I did get some work in on my ‘Pipeline on Wheels’ train. All 15-cars are painted and Kadee couplers have been installed. Next is the tedious business of putting the decals on all of them.

Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.

Just been laying track. Lots of fun, or not. Lets face it doing trackwork is a bit difficult and not my most favorite thing. I prefer doing scenery.

Rick: You have once again impressed me with some exzcellent freight caer models. That green GULF MOBILE AND OHIO car is handsome for sure. Great job.

Mike: A pair of steam engines working hard is always a welkcome sight. Beautiful modeling.

Allan: Nice progress on the tank car project. They are coming along nicely and look well painted. I don’t find decal application tedious, it is one of the most relaxing parts of the hobby for me.

Michael: I also prefer scenery construction over track work. Track work requires perfection and all mistakes will come back to haunt you. With scenery you can just cover up any mictake with a hunk of Woodland Scenics Floiage Cluster, and all is fine.

I present a new tank car this week, for the PROVIDENCE TERMINAL shipping line. I built this car a long time ago, but did not have any decals that looked right for it. I stumbled upon this set of custom decals, and modified the name a little bit to make it fit the tank car. I think it looks OK. At least it is rail-ready now.

Rick … Outstanding work on the GM&O boxcar and the Soo Line hopper. I really like the U25C’s.

Mike … Your narrow guage layout is fantastic.

Allan … The tank car train is impressive.

Michael … It is good to see your layout progress.

Kevin … The TPTX tanker is exceptonlly nice.

My photo is a Zephyr which just departed from Heartland Union Station and is moving towards the main line. Next stop is Blackhawk.

Rick, Thanks for gettin’ the WPF rollin’ again. Your neat GM&O boxcar prompted my boning up on the KarTrak bar coding and learning of the system’s late 60s-early 70s implementation and short life span due to ‘grime.’

Well, let’s try this again [:$]

Somehow, the entire cs.trains.com sites were all whacky Friday and part of today. I actually started a WPF thread yesterday morning at 5AM and every time I went back to the site it was there and it even had about 2 dozen “views” but after eight hours no replies [D)] Frustrating to say the least.

Thank you for starting the real WPF, Rick. A couple of nice cars as usual. Hey, how about some stirrups on that GM&O XML? [:)] Those U-25-Cs look great[Y]

Excellent photos, Mike! Your use of various grasses and shrubs are perfect.

Decaling fifteen cars sounds like a chore, Allan. Good thing we’re in “indoor mode” for the next couple of months. I’ve been on a buying spree of MTH 70 ton ore jennies. Trouble is, MTH only offers four different road numbers so I’ll be doing some renumbering decal work soon, too.

Providence Terminal sounds like a good name on a tank car, Kevin. PRR had some company-service tank cars in that color. You got me scheming again!

I agree, Kevin. Nice depth of field and a great photo. I have one lens that will stop-down to ƒ32. Trouble is it is a 60mm lens so the field of view is very narrow. I recall one of the “vintage” MR articles about making your own pin-hole lens using brass shim stock and a dimple made with a sharp center punch, then sanded until there was a tiny opening.

I wonder how many rivet-counters have their KarTrak ACI label colors match the actual car number, Peter [:-^] I’m sure none of mine do. Excellent scene, of course!

Great work everyone. I’ve only been installing drops, and doing some ballast, so nothing worth posting this week. I’ll be back next week.

Sorry Ed I don’t put stirrups on my freight cars, but I do install sill steps. But I forgot until I put the car in its box and found them sitting there. They have now been installed and the sill stepsmake the car look better than it already does.

Nice work everyone that has posted and Garry I especially like the Zephyr leaving town.

One last bit of weekend fun from me.

I have been trading and collecting custom (private) roadname decals for 35 years. In that time I have corrosponded and traded with countless people about our roadnames.

.

I acquired a collection of custom decals from the estate of Whit Towers including all the correspondence associated with these trades.

.

All of these letters have been laminated and preserved. I doubt anyone else will ever care, but I love them.

.

I thought there would never be a new one, but Harrison sent me a letter with a set of custom decals. It has been laminated, and added to the collection. It must be 10 years since I received a letter from a fellow modeller like this.

It is shown with one of the Whit Towers letters from 1962.
