Hey folks, its time to play Weekend Photo Fun! Can’t believe it is 10PM here and no one has started it. So here goes. I’ve been working on some senery in front of the new backdrops:
Zaduck Arthur’s old cabin built in the Late 1790’s when he moved here from Connecticut is all but completely gone now. The land was purchased from land owned by the Pulteney Association who bought part of the Phelps and Gorham Purchase in 1792. All that remains of the homestead is some of the foundation and part of the chimney, the forest has reclaimed all else. The family lived there for three generations and finally abondoned the cabin after it burned in 1847 building a “modern” house down the hill on another part of the farm.
As you can see by the not yet dry white glue in the first photo and the blue painters tape on the rail in this one, it is still a work in progress.
Yes, Adam that is a very good looking backdrop indeed! I only have one pic to add this time. I have added an Alexander Scale electric meter box and a conduit feeder pipe made from styrene rod to my fire station.
Nothing happening this week- next time “weekend photo fun” rolls around i should have pics (that is if my decals arrive in time)- looking good everyone.
And here the crew is turning the engine around manually !!! We passengers were quite happy to stand and watch; relieved we weren’t obliged to help. This is the last manually operated turntable still in use in Canada. http://railimages.com/albums/timothyjohnston/aaw.sized.jpg
Nice touch with the electric meter!!! Is the other engine on a call? lol [:D] Another nice touch would be an antenna on the roof for the radio system. and Thanks for the comments on my backdrop guys [8D]
Ray - nice job on those “ruins” [and the story that goes with them]! I want to model an abandoned, collapsing barn somewhere on my layout for ‘contemporary’ scenes - and have an identical intact model in the same spot when I’m modeling the late 1960’s.
Adam - nice work on the backdrops! I plan on looking closely at them since I’ll be doing some of that type of work myself shortly. I have several light-blue MDF sheets that I use as view blockers, they just need something to cover them on the bottoms.
Kevin - your firehouse looks fantastic, that electric meter really adds a whole new dimension of realism to it. I may be putting one of those on my steel mill peninsula somewhere, since every steelworks needs its own firehouse (hmmmm I wonder why that is…?[:-^])
Tim - nice pics of the AC trestle, N&W has alot of those on their Shenandoah division in Virginia.
Nice pics everyone! (I’ve got to think about getting DSL at some point. There are only 8 participants so far and it STILL took well more than 5 minutes to load the pictures.) Adam, is that a throtle I see in the cat’s paw? [:)]
I’m 99 and 44/100s done on my Alexander Scale Models NYC Freight Station - Caledonia, MI.
Just some painting touchup left to do. The wood flooring pattern is too uniform so I may actually lay some dimensional 1 x 8 stained wood planking to make it look more realistic.
Just a couple progress pictures of the expansion. This week and this morning I completed laying the roadbed.

Nice photos everyone. My computer has been down for about 10 days and work has been kicking my butt with 12+ hours a day the last couple of weeks also. So, needless to say, no work on my RR and not even the chance to look at what has been going on here.
Boy am I glad this comp is fixed. Now, when work lets up I can get back to my RR.
Nice pics and paint jobs after a long hiatus. [tup] Just a suggestion. You may want to reduce the size of your picture files so that those with dialup don’t have to wait so long to see your masterpieces. It’s best to keep them somewhere in the 50-100K range.
great pics everyone. kevin, love the fire station. at first, i thought i was looking at the proto type you had modeled. great job. nothing new here for a while. in the planning stage for the layout. hope to have a track plan by spring and get started on the bench work. keep up the good work guys. medic
nice work guys!..the plant is finally on the layout…sort of…still have lights, weathering, a tank farm, a loading platform, and scenery to do around it…started the plant in early november and still not done…chuck
