Weekend Photo Fun 10-5-2007 Thru 10-7-2007

I know there was some discussion/debate about changing the WPF format and/or adding another weekday topic. I don’t believe an overwhelming consensus was reached before said topic went astray and was deleted, so I’ll keep things going as usual for the time being. However I realize that I’m not the authority here, so if anyone wants to start a weekday photo topic, or make changes next weekend, feel free to give it a try.

Welcome to another session of Weekend Photo Fun.

Please remember to mention what scale is featured in your pictures. Also - and this is only a suggestion - please consider keeping the number of photos in your post to a minimum. Remember that this is a weekly event, meaning there are 52 opportunities per year to post pictures, so don’t feel the need to post them all at once. Spread them out over a few weeks.

I also plead with everyone that if you feel the urge to make a criticism; please keep it constructive. In fact I’d suggest using the PM (Private Messaging) tool for this purpose so this topic doesn’t stray. Thank you.

Now on to the photos…

My photo is N-scale, and is a close-up of a bridge span (first of three continuous) on my layout. Only the sky is digitally added this time. [:D]

Good premise and start to this week’s WPF, Bruce. [:)][tup] Hopefully this will get things off and going (and staying!) on the right foot…

Tom

Thank You Mr Bruce…in the manner you presented this weeks Photo fun, last week was a terrabale weekend for a few members and I hope all return in the spirit of good will and hopeing this will be a great week end for all. Me…Im getting ready for an MNRA open house and if anyone shows up great, if not it gave me a lot of gumption to finish and start other projects, this week a hi- way gard rail using N scale ties and coragated styrene, will post it sunday…Take care and Bruce, I think in the manner you presented this, if you or others want to be in the lead, the format should be repeated weekly, is fantastic for good fellowship…John

Good advice, Bruce. Maybe that should be a sticky at the top of all photo posts.

I’ve been doing more vehicles this week than trains. Officer Mike from Hillside PD is comparing notes with Sheriff Herbie about his new ride, a 2006 Crown Vic. Hillside keeps cars forever but Herbie gets a new car every year. Herbie likes the all black scheme - thinks it looks more menacing, especially with the big push bar [:)]

Hey Jim could you send one of those really nice looking police cars over to get the cow of the road on my layout ?The one with the push bar should work !

The photo below was taken last week on my HO-scale, BRVRR layout. The loco is a BLI NYC Mike #9519. I just put up the Walther’s backdrop. Doesn’t look too bad and it is better than the plain blue it replaced.

This little tourist scene was contrived to fill an empty spot near my downtown area. The Karmen Ghia and caravan came from Wal-Mart. The people came from my people box and Woodland Scenics, I think. I’m thinking about changing a couple of structures in this area, so the scene will remain rough for now.

Its a start.

I’ve been slowly working on my layout, trying to plan the ‘business district’ of Evanston, a fictional town on my layout. I’ve made mockups using cardboard and foamcore board of some of the buildings I’ll be placing downtown…being able to see them in 3D is a great help in creating just the right look. The tallest building will be 33.5" tall.

Where’s the accident ? Is it that lady heading for the gas station rest room and didn’t make it ??? [swg]

Mark.

Well, I have a busy weekend with a possible visit to the hospital to have son #2 to enter into our lives, so I’m not too sure how much modeling I will be getting done. But last week I was able to paint a P2K SD45 from BN to MRL. This marks my first attempt for a keeper. It turned out okay and I leaned a lot of what not to do’s. It’s HO scale like all of my equipment.

And the weekend prior was a weekend of working on two Kato BNSF engines. (I must say that I’m not too happy with all the work that goes into adding the details on these Katos. I wish that they would come already with the details. I know, poor me.) BNSF AC4400cw H2 and SD70Mac H2.

I didn’t show these last weekend because I didn’t get my DSL running until the week. Goodbye Dial-up! Also that is my diorama that I’ve been working on. I just coated the whole thing with plaster/vermiculite and soon will be adding scenery.

The new Wig-Wag is getting a final adjustment by the signal maintainer.

Looks like we’re starting off with nice scenes this weekend. I finally got around to putting some lighting into my first scratch-built structure, Burns Coal and Oil Company.

I snuck up close and took a picture in through the side window…

And later I backed off a bit, switched to a telephoto lens and took a look at what was going on up in the loft.

… “EXCELLENT”

Mark.

Terry, Sheriff Herbie will be right over. Nothing he likes better than nudging those doggies along. Usually a blast from the 200 watt siren gets them moving too. Did you know that you can actually get every cow in a field to come over to you if you moo at them through a PA system? Don’t ask me how I found that out. [:)]

Don, that looks like quite a metropolis you’re planning there. I think you need a subway system too. [:-^]

Allan, nice Pennsy power there. I’m not sure I understand the accident part of your second scene either. Sheriff Herbie would just drive right by.

Zak, you mean you would slight your modeling time just because you’e having a baby?[:O] Very nice models and I hope the prototype male and mom come through in fine shape.

Steamage, I love wig-wags. Is that a working signal or a dummy? I’ve been looking at a working model but it looks fiendishly difficult to install.

Mr. B., I wonder how many visitors will even notice who’s the owner of the Burns Coal Company? Nice model and very creative as well.

Thanks Jim

I forgot those are HO scale cows non digitally inhanced

Great job on these Jim-the spotlights came out well IMO!

Keep us posted on those possible interceptor badges too. [swg]

Well…we’ll see (please don’t tell the wife) There is always nap time, right?

Thanks. I hope that they do too. The wife and I are still fighting over a name. She isn’t going for Lionel or Athearn. Heck, I was even trying for Link short for Montana Rail Link. Just kidding, I’m going for the oldschool names like Hank and Dean but she isn’t going for them. She wants the more new-age names.

Nice work so far everyone! I have been finishing the last of my Cabeese. This one I decided to super detail the interior. Spent hours trying to find layouts and photos of the interiors of cabooses. Found a little but… nothing that I could take verbatum and use. So I have made my own design based on what I found and have started to scratch build some of the interior.

I had a coal burning Potbellied Stove so I put a length of pipe on it, painted it balck and glued it under the pipe on the roof. There is a water tank on the far right made from some plastic sprue I had laying around from another [project. Several details are on order, like a washstand and a chair for the conductor’s desk (Left end of Caboose).

Love the Backdrop! Its quite convincing in these photos.

Mr. B , nice , a little humor never hurt anybody.

Finally back to model work, my mother died out in Albuquerque, so I had to go out there for two weeks.

Added some color to my cast resin stucco city hall. Been very slow going. HO , The color is highlighting flaws that I’ll correct. Have cut some interior walls and am deciding on lighting options, doors and windows are ready as well.

Ok, with the risk of sounding stupid… is Cabeese plural for caboose? I’ve now seen this word three separate times lately and I am confused!

Thanks,
