Weekend Photo Fun 11-13/11-16

Guess I’ll kick this one off.

One of my Athearn SDP40F’s coming across the west side of the layout.

Here are some pics of my latest Atlas engine weathered by JKTRAINS. He even modeled a working strobe. Many detail parts were added as well. I think the engine is awesome looking…now one of my favorites.

Here’s a boxcar I have been working on.

Before:

After:

That’s a really, really nice unit! I love the weathering, especially the cab roof! But if you’re going to write about how it has a working strobe, can’t you at least post a photo of it in action so I can drool over it? [swg]

Here’s a new photo I took last night:

The conductor of local WCLE gives through freight CDWJ a run-by as it rolls past in West Canaan, NH.

The out-of-focus look on the side of GP7 #8569 is caused by a combination of the F/36 aperture (huge depth of field, but nothing is razor-sharp), Photobucket’s image compression, and the fact that it actually is a little bit out of focus! In order to get the background sharp as well, I focused on the conductor standing on the ground and let the far foreground and deep background be a little bit out of focus. A focus point any closer to the camera, and those trees in the background were too out of focus for me.

Driline - NIce looking engine. Whoever he is he did a great job of weathering that loco. I was looking at some prototype pics online of it and it really captures the look of the prototype units. The boxcars in the background look really good too. Did the same person do those also??

Jk Trains did a great job on that loco

Great work as always Robby !

Here’s a video of my T-1 mixed freight approaching the New River Bridge

Great stuff. I love DRI’s SOO line engine there. Is it based on one of the SOO line engines in the Quad Cities? I had written down numbers back in the 90’s but lost them all.

Love the box car as well. The shot of it outside you have to almost do a double take.Very good weathering.

Great pics and video so far! This is my first WPF post, and it is a new On30 2-6-0 and a tank car I bought at the Syracuse train show last week. I am in between layouts right now and figured if I am going to switch scales, now is the time!

You’re exactly right “route_rock”! That engine, but not the specific number was intended to capture the look of the Soo Line engines here in the Quad Cities circa 1995. You can still see some of them running now, but with the ICE moniker instead. I weathered the boxcars, but they are no match for JKTRAINS talent [:)]

Latest endeavors:

Really nice to see one of those old Train Miniature work/maintenance cabooses again, Chuck. TM was an important player in the hobby at one time and often a source of unique rolling stock in its day. You did a nice job on the painting/weathering of it as well.

I’ve made a few repairs at the engine house. And I took the chance to make pictures: That’s my German module “Naumburg” following the prototype.

Wolfgang

Thanks, CNJ831-

I’ve had had this car sitting in it’s original box for 20 years or so and finally got the nerve to paint it and try my hand at decalling. Ignoring all the botched jobs from when I was a kid, it’s my first attempt at water-slide decalling. Weathering is done with scraped artists pastel chalks.

Wolfgang - Nice locomotive. As always, I enjoy seeing your work.

Thank you, this engine was a Weinert kit.

Wolfgang

As I said to you on another forum, Wolfgang, it is a very nice engine. Kit, eh? Nice!

This week I show a crippled GG1 being shoved across the turntable at Seneca Sub. A K4s Pacific class engine is doing the honours. The GG1, with pantographs lowered for clearances, and because there is no catenary, was retrieved from the main where it broke down, and taken to Seneca for minor repairs. It is being placed in the central bay, directly opposite the approach lead for obvious reasons.

Hello, Nice work as usual everyone, I’ve just got my order from USA , unpack them . Wow! my new Athearn for its detail. they are so cool, living in the country where there are no chance to see a real things as you do. Well, back to my photos, i’ve had them on my notebook and started to shoot. Hope you will like them, too.

Crandall, do you accept criticism?

This is a great picture, but two things stand out that immediately detract from it

  1. the “too tall and oddly shaped” woodland scenics tan grass. I have a bunch of that stuff, and have never been able to make it look right.

  2. the “plastic” looking wall of the roundhouse. The foundation looks fine, it’s the brickwork that still needs a touch of attention.

Great overall though.

Here are some cars I did based on Jim Hedigers articles in Paint Shop!

All are Athearn Undecorated Kits and Herald King Decals.

Rick

Hi, Scarpia. No, I don’t mind it when it is offered constructively. Thanks very much. I have actually trimmed the grass already, so it was even longer…once. I will try to pare it down some more. As for the walls of the roundhouse, you are right, and I thank you for the reminder. At this stage in the ‘game’, I have gotten stale and begun to overlook those details. It is feedback like yours that reminds me of the never-ending nature of building a railroad. [:)]

Thanks, again. I will try to look after those in the next few days.
