Gidday All, Well its that time again. Had hoped to post some work in progress photos for a scratch building project that I’ve got under way, but little work = little progress. [sigh],so …
Baldwin Demonstrators on the AMG.
The Guys from the AMG were around last night to sort out the set up for the next train show we’ve been invited to and after business I showed them the last WPF which they thoroughly enjoyed. No “bear baiting” this time but kbkchooch would you mind divulging what technique you used making the grass on the left of your photo???
As Per Usual looking to the following Really Great Stuff.
This week needs a good WPF. It’s been a little slow around the forum this week, maybe because of the summer-like heat that’s lingering in the US Midwest. Then there’s that whole Friday the 13th thing going on…[:O]
Tefft is getting to be a busy place with the lengthening of the Cascade Branch.
There, like on about a dozen other spots around the layout this week, I did some electrical work to provide more DCC-friendliness. The layout was originally set up for DC cab control, so many of the turnouts were wired to power route sidings so that locos could be shut down. Now I’ve gone back to cut a gap right after the turnout. Since I wired every stick of rail with drops to the power bus, usually it’s just a matter of switching that siding from routing power through the turnout by moving those wires from the green, "hot-frog"switched by the Tortoise to an independent feed so the siding is always hot. Good thing I did all the work and all you have to do is look at the pics illustrating the results[:)]
At Rockwood, the center siding to store loads and MTs was finished to handle the extra traffic at the sawmill coming off the Cascade Branch.
I also finished up a much-needed siding to store standard gauge cars for drops and pickups at Durango. It’s the siding on the far right coming off the curved turnout in front of Durango station in the first pic and on the far left in the second taken from the other end of the yard. Blended in real good now that the ballast is down. Since it’s "close to the e
Gidday Bill, I don’t like to count chickens before they hatch, but looking good, touch wood !!! ( grasps head firmly with both hands) [swg]. I actually prefer rum.
Bear. That grass you speak of is nothing more than Silfor, from Scenic Express. Comes in a small mat, I just tear it into irregular chunks and place it haphazardly along the right of way for tall weeds. Here’s another shot, same area from the opposite direction.
[:D]
The bushes are just leftover stuff from the last batch of Supertrees
Was too late for last week’s WPF (or I think it’s kinda silly to continue it alllllllll week ), so here are some photos from our Silicon Valley Free-moN setup at the Great Train Expo in Santa Clara, CA.
Many of our participants with modules this year first saw us at the same show last year!
We ended up with over 30 modules from 15 members and over 300 feet of mainline circuit!
(Now we really need an ops plan! )
And, of course, the video:www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W-9KoroBMI
Terry in Texas ; though a bit off topic ,what operating system on that laptop ? great pict and Idea , sorry [:$] I well send a private mesage as not to steal the TOPIC…Jw
I’m running windows XP but JMRI’s “Decoder Pro” is made to run on alot of different systems as people tend to use thier older computers in the train room
before i was using my desk top in the room next door via 30 foot cable but that made for a lot of running back and forth especially when speed matching 2 locos
'Been working on my newest On3 loco this week. Replaced all the bulbs with LEDs(and added one to simulate the firebox flicker),installed a QSI titan in the tender to handle sound and power, and a TCS four-function decoder in the loco to handle the bulk of the lighting.
I like the way it came out,so I took engine 487(I had put a titan in it previously, but didn’t mess with the lights at that time) and re-did it the same way.
Here’s a short video that better shows the firebox flicker:
Good pictures by everyone. Garry especially like that you are still using you Hobbytowns, I have a number of those built and still have about 10 unbuilt kits.
Finally got some cars done yesterday, so here they are!
Assembled and painted an Intermountain 10,000 Gal Tank Car kit, painted it with Scalecoat II Black and lettered with Champ Decals.
After Athearn announced their NYC 40’ Early Bird Foobie, I had to finish this correct 40’ Early Bird Car. Started with a Branchline 40’ Kit with 8’ Door, substituted an 8’ Front Range Door from the scrap box. They NYC Despatch Shops did this with 1937 40’ Boxcars in the 50’s and lettered them for the Merchants Despatch Service. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and Boxcar Red, and lettered with Greg Komar Decals. Note the car was designated an RB instead of the more common RBL as it did not have installed racks for lading protection.
Walther’s 50’ NACC RB, note it is labeled an RB as it did not have installed lading control devices, painted with Floquil Signal Red and lettered with Herald King Decals.
