Weekend Photo Fun 14 -16 June 2013

Gidday All, Been a busy week not helped by an 0400 start to Auckland to attend a seminar on the introduction of Safety Management Systems, [zzz] and unfortunately I’m w**king right through, [sigh], but heh, that’s no reason not to have WPF [:D].

Have a Great One Folks.

Cheers, the Bear.

Been a while since I’ve had something to add to WPF.

After originally planning to model Miami ala Lance Mindheim I’ve changed my plans and am going to go with something more in the CSX heartland, plus I want to run some B&O first gen geeps and coal hoppers [:D]

So here is the new benchwork. Tonight I laid some track but ran out of joiners so will have to finish the rest off once I get to the LHS.

Sorry for the iPhone Pics.

Great wooden trestle Bear

Hope you get some trains running soon James that’s when the fun starts

Here’s a couple of old photos of a Dragline kit i finished a while back to add to my mine scene

I have finally finished some new freight cars in the past week!

Intermountain 10,000 Gal Tank Car Kit, painted with Flquil Black Paint and lettered with Champ Decals.

Atlas 17,360 Gal Tank Car Kit, painted with Floquil Dark Green Paint and lettered with Highball Graphics Decals.

ExactRail 4780CF Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Floquil Reefer White and lettered with Herald King Decals.

Thanks for looking!

Bear: Nice photo! … James: Good to see layout construction progress … Terry: Your draline model is outstanding! … Rick: Great looking freight cars.

In recent days, I have been trying to make headlights look more real on Proto 2000 E7’s. Here is how it looks now. It has a NCE 4-function decoder. The upper housing has 2 LED’s and the lower housing has one clear LED. The Burlington has 2 sealed beams in each of the two headlight housings. I simulated them with a flat pieces of plastic behind the clear lenses in which I drilled 2 holes for each housing.

Here is a prototype photo. The lower lights were used while the train was running. The upper clear light was not always used, but when used it was a mars light. The red light in the upper housing was used when emergency brakes were applied. In my E7, DCC function keys will turn on either the upper clear light or the upper red light. Both of the upper lights are flashing lights. The lower clear lights are a single LED shining through two holes, and it workd with the DCC headlight function.

Looks like some have been busy this week. Nice work, guys!

After last weekends ops session, I followed up on a host of small issues. Then I dealt with one I’ve put off for too long – going through all my narrowgauge locos and rolling stock to adjust couplers. Almost finished with that, but did have time for some shots around the layout.

Here’s #4 switching the North Star Mill.

Next I caught the crew switching Thompson’s:

Work done, it’s back to the enginehouse:

Then it’s quitting time:

I completed a couple more buildings for Dragon Products this week

The first had been a small hydro power station on the previous version of the layout. I cut off some excess styrene, added a loading dock, jib crane and a sign identifying it as Shipping & Receiving

I built the main office and truck maintenance shop some time ago, so I just added some signs.

This is another view showing a bit of an angle, and how it fits into the scene

I have not done much on the benchwork lately. I have added roadbed and track to most of the new subroadbed, and added a base for the propane dealership (with the small hammer on it). Still need to run subroadbed to it from the main line, and add track

Looks like a good start to WPF; there’s already some great work posted.

Here’s my contribution - my nephew and me running trains:

Bear, shades of O. Winston Link, and very nice to boot. [8D] [Y]

This image has a heavily cloned backdrop taped up to the wall, but made of several photos taped to each other. I hope to have something more permanent by the end of the summer. My contribution shows a hard charge into Elephant Mountain’s south portal and its potent 2.4% grade. The passengers needn’t worry as the hogger has about 5500 ponies working in this Pennsy Duplex to get the 700 ton consist up to the summit.

Bear, now that’s a trestle! Always think of you model railroaders downunder when I give my didgeridoo a blow’.

regards, Peter

Gidday All, Great Stuff as usual, thanks for the kind remarks, though

I’d be a “whiter shade of pale” [:$]

The trestle is part of the American Modular Group set up, here’s a link…

The weekend is here and the diner is getting busy.

Ok, I just wrote out an extremely long post, and it vanished! Quickly, I’m impressed with everyones contributions, and really, I spelled it all out a few minutes ago! Anyway, here are some images [hopefully] of our new roundhouse interior:

And one shot of the roundhouse leads:

everyone have a great week!

Looking good so far guys. Keep the photos and ideas coming.

Here is one from the BRVRR:

NYC GP-40 passes the Farmers Union elevator as Harry Breckler removes the tarp from his load.

This is always the best thread of the week thanks to all of you great modelers out there. Many thanks.

Bear,

Enjoyed the AMG website. Talk about embarrassed, pardon me, but I’ll be thinking of the Kiwi model railroaders as well, didgin’ or not. I’ll say it again, “Now that’s a trestle!”

regards, Peter

Terrific thread this week!

Stan: The roundhouse interior is looking sharp - staples and all! What’d you use for the brickwork on those inside walls?[tup]

Let me be the one to lower the curve a bit…

'Got out some Santa Fe equip. this week.

Have a good weekend,

Mike

Mike, Thanks! Your photo is great as well! The roundhouse is the Walthers modern roundhouse kit, and it has brick walls on the interior once assembled. That made it much easier to do the interior work. Since I’m modeling a 1950’s layout, you can figure the WWI era roundhouse would be nearly 40 years old by the mid 50’s, so I tried to give it that “lived in” appearance. The overhead lights are actually N scale lamps. they look right for this scene. I dry brushed white and dark green acrylic on the walls for the effect. Here’s one more shot:

Great stuff this weekend! Here’s mine–a “Never Was” 2-10-0 snakes down Yuba Summit with a stock extra. Rio Grande never had any “Decks”, but if they did, I kind of think they might have looked a little like this one, lol!
