What Bear, no lettering yet?
Here are some cars I finished this week:
A McKean Modern ACF 50’ Boxcar with Non Terminating Ends, painted with ScaleCoat II Reading Green with a few drops of Zito Yellow added to make a more Emerald Green. Lettered with Herald King Decals.
Accurail 40’ Plug Door Boxcar Kit, modified with a fishbelly frame to match the prototype, removed the cast on grabs and sill steps and replaced with Tichy grabs and A-Line Sill steps. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Orange, Boxcar Red Ends and Pullman Green Sill. Pullman Green lettering came from Tom’s Hobbies. Car was used by CNJ for hauling Ballantine Beer, this is the second of four cars I am doing.
Athearn Genesis PC&F 50’ RBL with twin 8’ Plug Doors, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was in lumber service assigned to the BN at Eugene, OR.

Gidday Frank thanks. From what I’ve found out 2 dome tank cars built in the 30s had TCX or GATX reporting numbers. But as mine was a freelanced version I chose the silver and green scheme because I thought that the green GERN Industries logo would look good on the silver and go with the under frame. doctorwayne has kindly issued me a GERN reporting number so it’s now up to me to make the decals.

I tried posting earlier this morning, but was nodding off, so decided to sleep on it[|)]
Mostly maintenance activities this week, as I was cleaning wheels and broke out the Centerlines for a long session. Don’t do this except every three or four years, as the CRC 2-26 keeps the grunge under control. I did tart up a Plain Jane tunnel portal, which started off as this gaping hole because I never quite decided how to deal with it.
It’s just a sneakoff to the continuous run loop, but also represents a rarely used tie-in to the Rio Grande Southern. First I made a rock "plug with a plaster casting and some Sculptamold to fit above (to be seen shortly), then I built a timber portal to fit.
I am working on a beat up, old caboose to go with my 18’ On30 fleet. It still needs some aging and weathering, but I think it’s looking good so far.
I also started some ballasting this week too. Need to get that track painted soon!
Boothbay Railway Village just received two Broadway Limited E7s that were just released. BM 3807 and 3808 are factory painted in the short lived as delivered color scheme. Within a few years, frugal B&M managment had them re-painted in the more familiar maroon with gold stripes.
This is the first time I know of that this scheme has been done for a factory paint job.

Beautiful locos, but I bet it was a bear trying to keep them clean, especially with those long Northeast winters.
The thought of repainting them probably occurred the first time someone was told to clean them up…and didn’t release them for a couple of days[:P] Jus keeedin’ on that, but that’s a whole lot of loco to wipe.

Rick j, the last time I tried decals I was about 9 years old. From what I can tell you must have a pretty steady hand. I especially like the Michigan mitten decal on the hillsdale boxcar.
Garry, the North Coast Limited is my favorite paint scheme. It sure is green. I think I may have commented on this before.

Grampy, don’t wait TOO long. I see the 2 guys talking to the engineer, but what is the guy in the orange shirt doing?
Last weekend the lhs got me for another kit. I washed first with thinned dark white acrylic then light India ink. My intention was to tread lightly with the weathering. Just enough to take the edge off. Putting down the brush presents a challenge from time to time.
