OK, it’s a bit early, but I’m leaving on vacation tomorrow, so this is my last chance. We have tickets to ride an old 4-4-0 steamer in Hawaii. Even better, it was my wife’s idea. I’ll bring back pics.
For now, though, it’s a shot of my newly-painted reefer. Car decal art is by Fritz Milhaupt. The car is a generic Athearn Blue-Box reefer. The restaurant in the foreground is DPM’s Other Corner Cafe.
Tom - are you actually unloading coal? I’ve got a bunch of old Mantua clamshell hoppers, and I’m building a dumping trestle, too. I’ve actually tried it, and it works.
I’ve painted my old Hustler body the same color as that Haggis-infested reefer. It will be much more heavily weathered, though. Fortunately, it was black to start with, so the single coat of spray paint didn’t cover well and I ended up with the result I wanted.
Hi everybody. I went railfanning in Worcester, MA today, and should have pics for you soon, and eventually the videos. I went with a friend, and met a few other railfans as well. If any of you are on this forum, I extend my hello.
Since my layout is new; this is my first response to this thread. One week ago; the layout was track on painted plywood. Scenery is progressing and is an on-going process. This is one section as it looks today:
Here’s a shot I snapped of one of the towers of Worcester Station, and I think it had a pretty cool effect:
Here is a pretty old picture of my layout progress, but also the most recent. Since taking this picture, the sides of the modules have been painted, and foam as well as backdrops have been added for the inset shelf portion.
Great pics everyone, some good progress being made all around.
TommyR was there a forrest fire next to your coal mine??? that sucker could have burned forever…
I decided recently to try once again to complete some of the half done projects I have lying around everywhere, progress has been good, the structures are all either complete or just awaiting glazing… except for one or two exceptions. Once these are complete I will ‘allow’ [:)] myself to start building some of the 15-20 other structures I have in the closet, I figure I have enough to do for the next 6mo to 1yr without buying another kit… although there is a Sierra West kit…
I am also still trying out various tree methods to find one I like… by the time I find the method or two I will probaby have enough trees anyway, I’m upto around 300 now… 150 Nandine based, 75 Furnace filter based… 10 Caspia based around 40 WS … 10 ‘bottlebrush’ failures and an assortment of around 30 other trials…
I’ve also been working on some of the terrain for the river/trestle corner section. Need to go get some more glue sticks.
I just recently got to a point in building my layout where pictures are actually worth taking. Here is one looking out of my engine servicing facility tracks towards town:
Here is one showing my service tracks and diesel fuel unloading rack:
Here is one showing the diesel fueling platform and sanding tower:
Well I realised today that it has been 12 months since I ran a train, so I hunted out some track, grabbed a loco and set it off. Nothing spectacular… remember the days of track on the floor and lying on your belly watching it come towards you…
Well this weekend, after more than three years, I finally got to start on phase 2 of my layout, which will complete the whole layout. This weekend benchwork began. As with phase 1, it is on wheels and the entire layout can be moved. It is also strong enough for me (weight withheld to protect the guilty) to climb on it.
Hey Mike, do I recognize an influence, or at least an inspiration, by way of Artz Lumber (a creation of “The Master”, Art Curren) from the MR&T town of Mukwonago? I like the nice touch of structure re-arrangement and addition of the 2 1/2-story building to one end. Very nice work.
