Gidday All. Well its now 1717 hours on Friday. My offering this weekend is in response to the recent thread about road bed and also Richotrains thread regarding the Mayans, this is what has been happening (slowly) at the club…
Strips cut from 3 mm (1/8 inch) MDF. If I’ve done my sums correctly should get just over 300 feet from an 8 x 4 foot sheet.
A few track nails to hold the curve while the “white glue” dries…
One corner module ready to prime…
Ready to lay track, why grey??? "cos that’s what was donated.
…will assume by now that the Mayans didn’t have a great deal of knowledge regarding the south west Pacific so will post further progression at a later date. [:)]
Nothing new this week, so I will post a some old pictures from the past at the Strongsville Society of Model Railroad Engineers, club layout in Strongsville, OH.
PRR N1s with a coal drag, with the 20th Century Ltd in the background.
Great work so far. Today I have a very short video of 2 double headed Pennsy M1’s. They are both BLI with QSI sound (The older run). I weathered both but you really can’t tell that on the video. I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
I haven’t been active in a while as I’ve been busy working on other endeavors. But I do drop by from time to time to see WPF and always enjoy everyone’s work on display.
I made and posted this around Christmas of last year, and figured you might enjoy seeing it again.
JaBear: Looks like nice broad curves on those corners…big engines should look good on those.
Selector: Great shot! I know you had good reasons for dismantling the layout, but it had to hurt a bit to cut up scenes like that one.
mlehman: 'Looking good,Mike! Isn’t it amazing how a few weeds here,a little grass there, really breathes life into a scene?
dti406: Nice Pennsy loco, and I particularly like the sepia-toned photo.
BRVRR: Good looking scene, terrific looking tree…What’d you use to make that?
Curt: I’ll say it again…Nice looking double header!
I finally got around to replacing the MRC decoder in my Genesis Challenger with a QSI Titan. 'Also put in a couple of High Bass speakers, and swapped out the gawdawful halloween orange headlight LED for a warm white LED.
I still need to tweak some CV’s,but here is a mercifully short video with the new decoder installed:
Yep, great videos this week, too! Maybe we’ll eventually need a WVF (Weekend Video Fun) thread?[:D]
I’m enjoying them especially so this week, as we just had high-speed broadband installed at the house yesterday (wife says that we’re now faster than 98% of the connections in the US.) They pop right up now. Gets me to thinking I may have to do a video sometime.[I]
Looks like a great WPF is under way! … Bear: Interesting MDF roadbed idea. … Cradell: Great night train shot … Mike L: Your layout looks great. Nice scenery and buildings. … Rick: I like the old layout pictures… Allan: The RDC photo is great… Curt: Steam sounds good on your video… DJ: That’s a great scene with your SW7… MAbruce: Nice video with the Santa Fe GP35 on a beautiful layout. … Mike (Middleman) : Challenger sounds and looks great!.. Robby: Good to see you back in WPF with a good looking weathered covered hopper.
On my layout, a “Milk Run” passenger train has an SD7 instead of the usual E7. The Christmas rush has added a couple of coaches to this train, and its normal E7 is probably MU’ed with other E’s for a long Zephyr full of holiday travelers. … A branch line track is visible as it descends from its connection with the main line.
My latest project was to remotor this IHC Alco C628 loco.
That involved removing this small 3-pole motor:
And shoehorning in this larger more powerful 5 pole motor:
That involved cutting a hole in the locos frame so the bottom of the motor cu\ould be lower than the bottom of the motor compartment and make more space for the decoder that will be installed later. Mehano used the old ball and socket universal joints on this model so they connected right up with the Athearn flywheels. I love these old Mehano locos. You can do almost anything to them.
