Gidday All, well I’ve had a look to see if I’m not duplicating WPF this week, and it appears I’m not, which kind of surprises me as it is nearly Friday midnight, a balmy 67 F. I’ve just finished w**k for the day, and have an early start in the morning.
As I’ve not had any time for modelling, from the show archives here’s a 9mm (1:34) NZR Ab class 4-6-2, which shares a lot in common with the Wab, I showed last WPF.
Looking forward to the really Good Stuff, Have a Great One Ffolkes,
Bear, nice start to the weekend, no work done but a nice model from out of the archives, I know how that goes.
I managed to cobble up a few cars this week!
Athearn 2600CF Intermediate Airslide Kit, what a PITA to build, no instructions a drawing that includes the early Airslide parts, part numbers on the sprue that do match the part numbers on the drawing and more! Painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Mark Vaughn Decals.
Atlas 3650CF ACF Covered Hopper Kit, removed the cast on Roofwalk and Walkover Platforms and replaced with Plano replacements including the risers. Kit painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Dan Kohlberg’s ICG Decals.
Exactrail 4427CF PS Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Oddballs Decals.
Beautiful loco there and great pic of it. Do you know what the things are between the rails in the foreground track? Looks like uncoupling magnets, but I think not?
Rick,
A fine study in balc and white…whoops, a little color there in the CGW logo[:)]
Garry,
Nice pic, I really get the sense of movement from it, even if it’s at rest.
I fell asleep over the keyboard, but looks like a good thing I went to bed after I woke about 4am[|)] Finally got this week’s batch processed. I will be adding more pics of the Cascade Extension later so these are a preview.
New Station for Black Cat Junction
New track way at the back of Crater Lake Junction
New track in Purgatory
Now that the track on the Cascade Extension is complete (except for one yard track at BCJ I’ll do tonight), I can start seeing some bigtime RRing up there[:D]
BTW, that’s Crater Lake Junction in the pic, but hard to keep track without a program.
Yes, some kinky looking track, but that’s with the telephoto lens that exagerates things like that. I can only get a good look in there from the end, as it’s just 10" high. It’s a little like building a ship in a bottle.
Some of the kinkiness is just narrowgauge “character” helped along by the limited selection of RTR turnouts and what I had on hand in my leftover box when I built it. There are a couple of adjustments I plan to make (one reason why I take these pics) but it all runs just fine. When you look at it from the normal viewing angle, it’s a whole lot better…
The new track in this case is the one the 2 cars are sitting on.
The foam was flying this past week. After my trip throught the Rockies last summer and remembering just how high the rock can extend above the railbed in some places, a little voice told me to go higher. Lots of work still to go, but it is a start. It’s too bad we have to be so “2D” on some areas of the layout.
I just hope the paint job goes as well as it did on this section next door. They don’t call me RemBrent for nothin ya know.[swg]
Hi, I just plastered and painted the background mountain. It is bigger than just this shot. I made the orange trees in the grove by hand. I’m still working on the landscaping. The house has a interior which I just finished but still needs to be painted once I decided the colors. It’s a turn of the century (1900) Victorian set in the 1990s with limited upkeep over the last 20 years. BTW the camera is eye level.
Thanks for starting things off Bear. Looks like we have a great beginning to WPF.
I purchased a couple of Bachmann coaches at the Vermilion, Ohio show a week ago for cheap.
I installed new Kadee couplers, LED strip lighting with a 270 ohm resistor to cut down on the glare and a few 1:100 figures I purchased a few months ago in bulk.
NYC Coach #810.
NYC Coach #965.
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
I admire your fortitude. Turntables and roundhouses can be a big frustrating project. I sometimes think mine mostly takes up space. It runs well enough, just a fiddly thing to get going right. People need to be well disciplined to use it as a group, i.e. let the maintenance guy(s) touch it, only! Good Luck. Any club that can keep one going is a group that has its act together.
I am a little leery of that set of points right up to the pit, though. My exprience is that a short stretch of straight track on that last bit to the pit is a good idea. But then the Walthers(?) may be more square than my kit built Diamond Scale[#oops]
I’m just installing the roundhouse itself, the turntable and the trackwork was already in place before I became a member. So I’ll talk to our track guy and see if he can rework the track to have more of a straight section. But thank you for the words of kindness. We’ve got a reverser unit somewhere for it.
Here is the other side of the street I’ve been working on. This is in Highland California.
The county roads are not in the best condition. The San Andreas Fault goes right across the bottom of the hill. The orange groves are on the North American plate, and the horses are on the Pacific plate.
