I went to the club layout on Saturday and used my Atlas GP38 and Athearn SD38 to replicate the Delta Turn which delivered auto parts to the Wabash/N&W at Delta, Ohio for delivery to Ford Plants in Kansas City, KS and Milpitas, CA.

Looks like we’re off to a rollicking good start. Work continued on the Cascade Branch this week. By last night, the scenery base was all in and pink a thing of the past, except in a couple of spots that depend on some final work before being dirted-in.
The stone mill at Purgatory is starting to look like a going concern.
Here’s the site of Camp 13, a busy logging landing. High-line logging was a West Coast thing, but I think we might use it here to bring in logs and load them.
The last of the roadbed is down in Crater Lake.
More track is on the way and the crew is rested.[:)]

Time to drop by with some new pics. It looks like everyone has some great stuff once again! Bear, another great night shot!, Sam, impressive scene! I like those City Classics buildings as well, you can do a lot with them. Nice Heritage unit Jarrell, and the go carts add a nice touch! Rich, nice DT&I power, I know if I was in one of those units, I’d be looking for bikinis! Mike, your layout is looking amazing! Allan, love the old NYC GP20’s, it makes me think of train watching at my grandparents farm on the Centrals Lake Shore division! Terry, nice video! My kids would have a mess if we had something like that! Wilton, interesting water tower! Michael, nice rio Grande loco, and the backdrop is stunning! MisterBeasley, that’s a very detailed carfloat, nice work!
Some of you might remember that we at the Salamanca Rail Museum inherited the bicentennial locomotive collection and layout of the late Mr. Thomas Busack, a big contributor to MR, and a recipient of the Model Of The Month Award as well. Mr. Busack was an incredible kitbasher, and his models are top notch. Here are two photos of some of those models. First, we have the South Buffalo RR and Buffalo Creek RR Alcos:
And the EJ&E SD40-2 668:
He modeled 71 of the red white and blue locos all of equally impressive detail.
We are proud to be able to display his great collection. As for the layout, Mr. Busack was old school in a big way, and although his layout was impressive, it was difficult to remove, and probably will have to be re created in a more modern fashion. Here are a couple of pics of my sons removing the layout from his basement:

Great shot, so too the modeling, really like those kids on coasters. The fun of building and riding coasters as a kid, old metal shoe skates for wheels with rope steering and living a block away from the Southern Pacific mainline in Albany, Ca. Ah, love how model railroads can bring back so many good memories.

Gorgeous “new city”
Few months ago I found two Athearn BB kits at a LHS for a bargain price. Although it was nice and warm here in Québec today, I decided it was time to assemble them. I weighted them, replaced the plastic wheels for metal ones, changed the couplers for Kadees and added washers to adjust couplers height. In less than one hour I had two new reefers in my car rosters. I agree that this is basic modeling but it was fun.

I am currently buying the home of the late Thomas Busack. We went to see it a few weeks ago for the first time. I had no idea who Thomas Busack was. My younger son is a train fanatic, so you could only imagine how excited he was (and me) when he saw the model layout in the basement. We were very sad to see it gone, but now know that we will design, and build, our own layout, both for our enjoyment, and to pay respect to the great artist that Mr. Busack was. I would love to have one of his engines for the build.
