Weekend Photo Fun, 28 February - 2 March 2014

Gidday All, well here we go again. Firstly I must admit that last weekend I inadvertently mislead zstripe Frank, in the number of parts in the partially assembled counter weight mechanism, I’m not sure what went wrong as it was so warm that I was already in bare feet which should have at least made counting to 20 a breeze, and by association multiples of 20 reasonably easy.[*-)] Alas it went all pear shaped and I got it completely WRONG,[:$] not 102 as advertised, but with what I got done this week only 93 parts each so far.[sigh] It also shows that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Looking forward to the Really Good Stuff.[:D]
Have a Great One ffolkes,

Cheers, the Bear.

Looks like a nice project, Bear.

There’s a couple of locos working tonight, one in the yard and one on the main

Great photo but where’s the rain and or snow??? [swg]

Yeah, I am still having fun.

Cheers, the Bear.

Bear and Mike, nice project and layout pictures.

Got some cars done this week from short to long!

This was an ECW 2001 Kit with widely spaced hatches, I removed the latching mechanism and mounted the hatches longitudinaly as the prototype was built, also added some sheet metal panels to replicate the Bethlehem Steel cars that the Reading purchased. Added airlines and A-line Sill Steps, painted with Scalecoat II Reading Green. Used a set of C&NW Covered Hopper and Reading Boxcar decals from Herald King as there is not a set for the only car in this class LOf that was painted in the Green and Yellow Reading scheme.

This is an Eel River 62’ RBL used in the Coors Beer business, car built per kit instructions, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Oddballs Decals. This goes with the white MP car I did a couple of years ago.

Walthers 86’ PS Hi-Cube Auto Parts Car, Painted with Scalecoat II White, Floquil Platinum Mist and PC Green and then lettered with Microscale’s Decal set for 86’ Hi-Cubes. Class X60p were purchased new by the PC in 1969. [2c]

Thanks for looking!

Really got hooked on the Pan Pastels for weathering

Because it’s so quick and easy

Nice work, Bear, Mike and Rick![:)]

Since Mike started a night scene focusm how about some more?

I continued follow-up from installing lighting in passenger cars. This involved adding more resistance in many cases to get the lights suitably dim. In this pic, the car on the left is as originally installed, while the one on the righthas a bunch more resistance to tone the lights down.

The clerks in the RPO are still working the mail as the San Juan arrives.

Another view of Silverton at night.

Adding lighting added a little weight (~3 grams per car) and some drag from the wipers. So I had a couple of spots where this was the difference between making the grade or not on the narrowgauge. I fixed a couple of iffy spots in the track, tuned all the wipers, oiled the truck journals and, last but not least, I added almost two ounces of lead and TempLow to the 476.

The REA has a last minute group of items to add to the train.

It wasn’t all narrowgauge. I also lit one of my standard gauge cabooses.

And I did a little more work on my bargain basement scraper, which is busily at work grading the new spur up to Camp 13.

Nice work from everyone again this week. Here’s an evening yard shot. DJ.

Denver Union Station

well this is what i have this week i have put down some scenery but i am trying to only do things on track that i know are going to be issue free till i run my layout more…now for a question do you think this house looks out of place?..my girlfriend said it looks out of place because theres no road around it. i told her the driveway runs into the walkway of my layout and i am showing the road as off layout what do you guys think is it pulling it off? i should say that the main entrance for my lumber yard is right down the “road” so it too just runs off the side of the layout.

Great work as always. This thread is always a inspiration to me. All I have put together this week is the Cornerstone Water Street Freight Station. It was a fairly simple build and the cost was very reasonable. This will go on a siding on the next section of the layout project.

Slow-n-Low, I guess it is an issue of using your model RR imagination. On my layout, I have half a street running along the edge of the layout in Greenvale Junction. A sign at the depot says additional parking is available across the street, and there is a crosswalk. There also is a branchline track that goes off the edge of the layout (to the left, out of the photo); it is non-powered and the turnout is pinned to go to the enginehouse

Nice work, everybody.

Here is an older photo. I’m traveling now.

Good morning, Bear. Very interesting looking model. Great night and evening shots, Mike and DJ. I’m working on photo/video fun from a little different perspective. These are 3-image composites. The camera is about 3 inches from the seats for the coach mockup shots, and very slightly zoomed in.

i know i know this is my 2nd post but i did some more work i wanted to show off… i just did my grade crossing for the enterance of the lumber yard…

DC Fixer- Awesome photos and modeling

Slow-n-Low- Very nice crossing. I have issues with them also. I usually just end up using sheet styrene.

thanks… the crossing are from train time laser i got them off ebay so fair there very nice. they are styrene i think went down very nice all i did was dry brush some india ink on them to weather them a little

Ah… The Weekend! Some great work being shown as always!

Slow and Low, I really like the grsde crossing. Great work!

I had a person at another forum thought the roof on my Blacksmith’s Shop was a comercial one, so I got a good close up of it… Figure I might just as well share it here:
