weekend photo fun 3/10

finally got my last detail part for the SD-9…

while waiting for the part, i started this cattle loading scene…still have more work to do on it

was experimenting with a way to make rolled hay bales…I took a piece of scotch bright, cut it, rolled it up like a cinnamon bun, and hot glued it so it would not come apart, painted them a tan color, then took an old blonde fibered paint brush, cut the fibers from the brush, and glued them to the stack…it came out ok i guess…chuck

thats a great idea on the hay rolls. I see them all the time when driving out to s.d. in cali. Maybe this spring I could take some pics and we could all come up with ideas. Yours look great!

Those hay bales looks good. This week I got my GP38-2 painted.

Before

After

I still need to get a set of grab irons for it, convert it to KD couplers, and maybe super-detail it.

I got my paint from testors but it does not spray
[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!] had that paint sprayed, my FP7 would be partally done.

I don’t think I have submitted a photo here for ages, mainly because I haven’t produced anything for that long. Anyway, I build a programming track recently, and decided to make it a bit of a mini-diorama. I think I need to improve the backdrop, but I need to think of what to do.

This is what I have played with all week. My new atlas 8-40C. It sounds really cool

I guess I put togheter 3 BB athers this week as well.

Heres two of them on done and one not. there both done now. Just got to get to the hobby shop and get some decoders for them. and some Kadee couplers

Hi Guys Great Pics! It’s Finally Raining here in phx AZ.So What a great day for ModelRailRoading! Heres a couple from me

Some new pine tree im planting

The EJ&E On approtch To the Tunnel

Carl…

I just ordered one of these.[:)][:D] I didn’t get sound though.

Carl, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one using Atlas snap-switches.

Dekruif
should have go the sound

Hi guys. Great work as usual. I don’t have anything as cool as some of your loco’s, but the track for my new U-Shaped Dog-Bone is finally installed.

This is the East End of the Dogbone…

This is the West End of the Dogbone…

Trevor

Well I figured out how to use my videocam to take digital pics and download them to my PC…but apparently haven’t yet figured out how to add them to my postings!! [:I]

I was under the impression that all of these models came with sound built in. You have to remove the baffle, called a pacifier or binkie, for the full effect. Some volume control problems may be present, though. [}:)]

OK, here’s my weekend project. At the train show in Fayetteville, Arkansas today I picked up this all metal Mantua 4-4-0. I also found a NWSL motor at a neighboring booth and measured the fit. It looks perfect! Now, I’m going to try to remotor this steamer and fine tune it!

If time permits, I may photograph the progress and post it in a different thread. If any of you have done this and have suggestions, let me know!

Here are a few things I have been working on:

I finally did a little landscaping around Grafton Tower and the abandoned siding behind it, which is really my programming track. Still needs a little work, but it is a vast improvement.

I finished repainting, lettering and striping this pair of F7s just this weekend. They started out in the SF blue and yellow freight scheme. I weathered them a little with paint, artists chalks and Dullcoat. Next is a sound decoder and linking them electrically for better electrical pickup.
Keep up the good work guys! I always find new ideas here.

After several grueling weeks at work, finally got to peek into the garage. Couple of pics (sorry for the focus … got to remember that tripod) of two locos I picked up several weeks ago. Today was the first time power was applied to them.

My MP DS44 runs fine on DC. Now have to get a decoder installed, put on the couplers and the other detail parts.

MKT F3 AB unit also ran some paces around the test track. This one is a real heavy and simply crawls. Have decoder, res and LED for this one. But, have to get that lumber to start the benchwork. So many things to do, so little time. Have the week off so time to kick some ^%#t.

Great pics as always guys…

Well I havent really got anything to show, but I spent this morning designing out a track plan, here are the pics, I tried to incorporate, point-to-point, continuous running, some switching and multiple 'altitudes, I think I got it all in here.

Finally work can commence on construction as my house is now in a livable condition. Stay tuned for updates.

1: overall view of two main tracks on diff levels, (the green track connects them.

2: Bottom left is a closet where the town will go above the tracks, the end of the tracks will go under the town from a passenger station. Top left will be my rendition of the mighty Kinsol Trestle.
Top right will be a major industry, probably coal, the uppermost topright tracks will run through the industry as loads-in/loads-out tracks bypassing the mainline.
Bottom right is a dock scene which will provide the main switching opportunities, although there are several spurs for smaller industries around the layout
The Blue track descends to under layout staging.
This layer will ascend to the north and be @ 0 elevation in the south.

3: Main line 2. basically just a continuous run with a few industries along the way, and a large hidden passing siding to store a train out of sight. connected to other layer via green track for more running possibilities. This layer will run under the coal industry and along the north wall. elevating on the west wall, over the station lead tracks an up behind the docks, descending again along the east wall and back underground.

4: underlayout staging, accessed from a hidden siding in the dock area.

Well I guess I’ve been away too long and this thread has died… I remembeber back in the “old days” (9 months ago) when the best forum modelers :- Aggro, TWhite, Tstage, Grande, AC4400, Selector, Spacemouse, RaiilroadingBrit, Steve Blackledge, A multitude of others… and all you other great guys would drool through the week to be a part of this thread, to stand and admire others work… and here we are on a Sunday night, on page 4…

Lets raise the bar, show our stuff, and admire the accomplishments of our peers… or am I just too over enthused at being back???

either way, as always
Have fun & be safe
Karl

Hey, Karl, it is great to see you back, alive and kicking!!! [:D]

Unfortunately, my wife and I are in the throes of a substantial basement reno, and we are both wiped at the end of the day. I am also teaching online, and dreaming of revamping my own layout when this darned reno is finally over. Sorry I have not been vigilant about your contribution here.

if I may, I will have a look at it over the next 24 hours and offer comment… not that I am in any way an authority, you know.

Good to hear from you again.

P.S. - Mississippi, eh?

Ok, I don’t see any flaws, but I gather you will flesh out the red main diagram for more activity? Also, at top dead centre on your top level, you have, on the inside, a little turn away from the main, and then it quickly turns back toward it, right at the end of a stump track. Any particular reason? Personally, I would keep it straighter.

Engine servicing? Gotta have it, Dude. Work with me here!!! [:D]

Otherwise, Karl, I think it is ambitious and will be a lot of fun for you. I am also every happy (relieved) that you will still undertake the Kinsol.

As you add changes, I will add more commments, and I hope others do, too.

Finally finished my other two units for my , ficticious railroad, Texas Mining and Industrial, added it as my signature picture.
Love the SP pictures above, My main interest is the SP, had to have a shortline of my own though.
