Weekend Photo Fun 3-5 January 2014

Gidday All, have been away on holiday, no internet , no model trains, did take my steamdriven laptop to teach my self how to use a track planninng programme, but failed to load it properly[banghead] and anyhow had only one day of rain. Had plenty of time for fishing, walking and generally relaxing in the sun.

Caught up on last weekends offerings, [bow] [bow], perhaps I should take the hint and go away more often!!

Anyhow if I stopped now I would at least have a carfloat.

Looking forward ot the Really Good Stuff,

Have a Great One Folks, [:D]

Cheers, the Bear.

Bear,

We missed you, but glad to hear it was holiday well spent. Nice car float!

After some experimentation, one of my New year’s Resolutions was to start posting in 300dpi hi res[:)]

So how about some pics? I spent a lot of time fiddling with LEDS and CVs. Here’s some of the results.

Nice car float Bear

I like the lighting effects Mlehman

I Spent the week installing some Wow sound decoders in some smaller locos

Since I have not finished anything recently I thought I would show some of my favorite builds!

The NYC rebuilt some 50 Ton Twin Hoppers into 65 Ton Twin Hoppers which were only 5 ton less than the 70 Ton Triples that were standard at that time. I have also shown a 50 Ton Twin next to the 65 Ton Twin for a size comparison. I cut and spliced a 100 Ton McKeen Greenville car to make this car. Mark Vaughn supplied the decals to finish this car.

My Kitbash in a box an Eastern Car Works 3500CF GATC Dryflow Covered Hopper. A lot of cutting and fitting, added airlines and lettered with Oddballs decals.

Bear … The carfloat is outstanding!

Mike L … The lighting looks good. It’s kinda fun working with the lights.

Terry in TX … I like the 2-8-0 video with sound.

Rick J … I can see why you think those are favorites. (I see you also have trouble with text format below a picture with the new forum software.)

I shot this photo of NP and GN trains yesteday. The next two photos are of Woodland Scenics figures I recieved for Christmas. (Kids flying kites and workers on strike.)

Bear, Good looking car float. Will it have a superstructure?

Mike, Great photos!

C&O Fan, That WOW decoder is impressive.

Rick J., You have more patience than I do.

Garry, Colorful trains and a good photo.

Here is one from the BRVRR:

My NYC RDC is a Proto 1000 model with a Digitrax DH123 decoder, interior lighting and a few passenger figures installed. The striping is a combination of paint and Microscale chevron decals. Someday I might even install a sound decoder to give it some character.

As one car-float fan to another, well done, Bear!

And a labor dispute at the Hostess Twinkie plant? Who’d have ever imagined something like that?

I’ve been off the last few weeks. (My long end-of-year vacation comes to an end on Monday.) I did manage to get a lot of work done railroad-wise. Last weekend, I dug out space for a new pond and prepped it with plaster cloth:

Now, it’s all painted and I’m ready to pour some Envirotex. I spent a couple of hours yesterday building the small trestles, and some time the day before making bridge track by pulling off the ties from the end, removing the spacers and putting them back. I’ve got lots of extra ties because I used the rails from a few pieces of flex track on my car float.

Keep 'em coming, and a Happy New Year to everyone!

Thanks Gary, but when you are limited to XP and Internet Exploder 8 at work due to signing in on bank websites, you get what you can. In order to answer this E-mail I had to get onto Google Chrome as the reply and other buttons disappeared as soon as I posted.

You would think that IT Idiots would check things before implementing software changes!

Gee, and I thought it was my Firefox that was the issue. I’d sure like to know how to fix it, because even the Clear Formatting command doesn’t help me – and it all looks like plain text on this end.

So the formatting on the website doesn’t work well with IE* or FF, then what does it work with exactly? Apple? Elbonian Explorer? Or?

Awesome work again this week. My basic construction continues. Sun or Mon I plan on hooking it up electrically then loco testing. My current plans are to put a water feature under the bridge and the loop will be mainly covered by a mountain.

Ahhhh, my favorite thread of the week! Some fine work already being shown…

I have been getting some things done on my Blacksmith’s Shop Project. The walls have been joined together and it is starting to look like a building… It almost looks a little bit likerthe one I’m modeling or so I’ve been told. Anyway here is where the Alloway, NY Octagon Blacksmith’s Shop is at the moment:

Since these photos were taken, I have added more plaster to the inside corners for strength and have smoothed out the egdes on the outside with a little bit of the colored plaster.

Finished the wiring on the doodlebug earlier tonight…

I even put a plug on the capacitor in case it goes BOOM!!

Really great work everyone!! Very inspiring.

Here is my newest critter in partial assembly. I have made a few improvements over the one in my avatar but they are very similar. This one has directional lighting and the front headlight mounted where it should be as opposed to on the roof like the first critter where the exhaust stack casts a shadow.

I didn’t notice that I had the horn mounted backwards until I transferred the picture from the computer![D)][(-D] Pictures don’t lie!

Gidday Allan, yes it is my intention to have superstructure. I recently updated my build progress here… http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/220945.aspx… just not sure if the link will be clickable. EDIT!!! No, it won’t. [:(!][banghead]

Thanks to all those who made the kind comments.

I thought Garry that I was going to miss out on my CB&Q fix,[:(] but thank goodness there’s a glimpse in your kite photo, though to be fair Rick J has a CB&Q covered hopper in this weeks offerings.

Dennis, regarding your caboose in last weekends offerings, is it a Bowser kit that you have added individ

Wow, Saturday morning and I’m late to the party!![:O] As usual, the pics are inspirational and educational!

Bear, I must admit, that a big carfloat! Never seen one with lifeboats on it before!!

Mike, LED’s are fun arn’t they? Nice work

Terry, those WOW decoders sound great!

Rick, You have some awesome cars there.

Garry, love the Hostess plant! [(-D]

Allen, the Chevrons look great. That job would have driven me to the funny farm.

MR B, Nice bridge

Ray,build me one??? Pwease!!

Curt, one word,guardrails? [;)]

Dennis. Wow that a lot of wire for such a little space! Please make sure it gets tucked up out of the way, wouldn’t want little people tripping over it!!

304 crossing Orphan Creek, dontcha love LEDs!

Ray,

Outstanding work![tup][Y]

And a lot of other great work here, too.[:D]

I love the photos so far. Here is my Bachmann NYC 2-8-0 and a custom painted MDC Harriman car. Also included are some Accurail boxcars and factories made out of Walthers Cornerstone Modulars painted by me as well. file://localhost/Users/warale17/Desktop/photo.JPG

It’s always a treat checking out WPF…Inspiring stuff! Nothing really new on my end this week. I’m busy “deforesting” my yard area(way too much static grass, not enough cinders!).

1801 works the yard:

3948 comes off the wye:

Have a good weekend!
