Weekend Photo Fun 3 - 5 May 2013.

Gidday All, mild autumn night here, still T shirt weather.

Steam on the AMG.

Looking forward to the really “Good Stuff”.

Have a Great One Folks,

Cheers, the Bear.

AN EXPLOSION AT THE FUEL DEPOT! Actually, this photo was an accident. I was setting up the camera on the mini-pod, not positioned or focused properly yet, but turned on & my finger accidently hit the shutter button. There’s quite a bit of metal in this scene & that, combined with the flash bouncing off it & the background as well, created this. I got a chuckle out it. Looks for all the world like I captured the precise “flash point moment” of a catastrophic explosion at the fuel depot.

Nice looking steam engine!!

Carl…nice “accident”…haha.

Here’s a RUSTY car from me.

I know this isn’t a model, but I came across this and thought it was cool. It’s called the “Tunnel of Love” and is a real road in the Ukraine.

Bear: Nice steam locomotive. … Robby: Excellent job of weathering. You are very talented. … Carl: Thanks for sharing your accident. Neat picture. … Space Mouse: Is that an example of green energy?

This photo is a few months old. I’m reposting because it has the Northern Pacific “Pine Tree Paint Scheme” on the passenger locomotives. The nose stripes look a little like pine trees. The engines are Atlas FP7’s which were popular several years ago. I selected this picture because of NP2626’s thread on this paint scheme.

Conservation of energy no doubt. The engine does all the MOW work while running its route.

It’s that time my favorite thread of the week and looks like we are off to a great start already. As someone who has received countless number of high praises for my weathering, I could not hold a candle to your stuff Robbie. Man I would love to pick your brain about how you create some of the effects you do.

This past week has had me dabbling in several projects. The first is this rebuilt SD70M. When I got this thing it was rough and I do mean rough. I completely rebuilt this engine from the ground up. She has had a face lift, added some junk in her trunk, gave her a new paint job, power plant and tsunami sound which was my first attempt. All that is left is to put the handrails on. I think she turned out pretty well.

I have also been working on an undecorated Athearn Genesis SD70ACe. At first I was going to sell the unit for profit but then I decided to keep the engine and turn it into a Reading heritage unit as I am getting tired of waiting for the real ones to hit the market. Still need to put all the ancillary decals on and then reassemble. This is my progress so far.

Lastly, I just started working on the cab of my latest project to which I will be jumping into full force after the completion of these previous two. Here is the engine I will do next.

I am really excited to tackle this project, I love the look of the admiral cabs. In preparation I purchased the paint, have the decals and purchased 6 SD60M railpower cabs. I went this route because I wanted a

A work in progress on the club layout. Everything is scratch built no kit whatsoever. Two years spare time work from one of our member and not yet completed.

Great photos everyone.

An UP ES44DC refueling/sanding at the Cheyenne rail shops.

Awesome work everybody. Everybody here is a inspiration. This week I removed a lead to my TT that had a really sharp curve in it so only small locos could use it. I widened it about 5 inches easing the curve, but attaching to the TT at the same point. I still need to put scenery and ground cover down. My pickiest loco (M1a) runs both directions without issue.

lot’s of great work this weekend as always, I wish I had a layout like yours curt it looks amazing!

BN F7A #724 a former NP veteran sits on the turntable in what’s soon to be Vancouver Washington hopefully.

A wide range of projects so far and looking good. I played with lighting some more this week. First, I added some more blue LED lighting over Silverton, as well as up into the mountains to Red Mountain and Animas Forks.

I also added a LED strip light over Silverton. Clearances here preclude track lighting from working well. The strip light doesn’t have that problem. Cost was about $40/12 feet. Intensity is good, as you can see in this shot.

I then brought up the room lights. The first pic is with the strip lighting, the second without it.

It’s harder to see the difference in these pics, but the LEDs really help fill the light there. Here’s another pic that shows how much light is added. Certainly up to my expectations.

I also came across a MR16 LED replacement by FEIT Electric that seems to work well at a cost of $10/each, using 3.5 watts versus standard 50 watt halogen bulbs.

Wow Mike, those new lights look great.

I just got a new camera today, so I’m going crazy on photo taking now. LOL

Are those Rivarossi / AHM passenger cars behind it? I have a set like that somewhere. Got them in 1982 and they came with the E8s incorrectly painted in that scheme. Actually I think my FP7s are in the Lowey scheme.

Nothing new from me

Here’s an old video of some double headed steam action

and just to prove i do have some diesels

a couple of U boats

Thanks for commenting. Yes, the passenger cars are Rivarossi / AHM. It’s a short, 5-car train that I use for the FP7’s. The cars are upgraded with body-mounted Kadees, new trucks, and proper weighting. … Yes the Rivarossi E8’s did not belong in NP colors.

Some great stuff again this weekend guys!

Here are a couple of new ones from the BRVRR:

NYC GP7 #5809 leads a local ‘jobber freight’ west bound on the BRVRR.

NYC RS-32 #8038 heads up a coal drag on the outer mainline of the layout.

Keep the photos and ideas coming everyone. You always make WPF the best thread of the week.

A shot of the grandson’s (8 yrs old) MTH “O” scale train, which shares the basement room with my HO scale. You can see it’s a busy road!..Legos go just right with “O” scale. He spends his summer vacation with us, what a treat! He came running up the stairs one day, last summer with his buddy, all happy and proud about the “tunnel” they built, using some left over styrofoam. Looks like it works!

Great pictures everyone!

Mike.
