Weekend Photo Fun 3-6 June 2016

Gidday All, a cold but clear Friday night; a good start for a three day weekend. Being Queens Birthday Weekend I wasn’t sure if I could share this holiday with those south of the 49th parallel north, especially descendants of those who threw perfectly good tea into Boston Harbour.[C] However I can’t bring myself to be churlish so please feel free to join in.[;)]
While I’m pleased with the progress on the CISX 500 build, here’s another photo from the show archives. I’ve always had a sneaky liking for the Deutsche Bahn steam colour scheme as seen on this 4-6-2 Pacific at speed.

Bear,

And a fine Queen’s B-day to you. I’ll lt the new section shed at Purgatory stand in fi all the maintenance I’m doing these days…

Looking forword to good stuff! Wish I had another 3 day weekend.

Gordon is looking a bit different since being shipped from Sodor to the Anthracite region of Pennsylvania.

And a video from last weekend, it’s a bit of a bumpy ride but I think it turned out decent since I was holding on to the cab and making sure I didn’t drop my camera. This is at Steam into History in New Freedom, Pennsylvania on a 2012 built, civil war era decorated 4-4-0. It was the Lincon funeral train annivsary, so it had some extra decoration on it, but the real funeral train did run through the area on the way to Harrisburg in 1865. Really it was just a fun day riding steam.

Casey, your work is remarkable.

Thanks for starting the thread Bear.

Another custom decaled hoppers- up to 13 or 14 now

The final car for my freelanced OCS train

Finally almost finished up my Wheeling & Lake Erie 1990 theater car

Have a great day all.

Good morning Bear, thanks for starting, I see a lot of German stuff at our club as one of our members models the German Railroads.

Mike, nice quick start to the weekend.

Casey, what a transformation on that Thomas Engine!

Managed to get a couple of cars done this week!

Proto 2000 PS 4427CF High Hip Covered Hopper kit, replaced the plastic roofwalk with a Plano version after drilling all the holes and applying the new supports. Painted the car with Floquil #20 Caboose Red and lettered with Oddballs Decals.

Athearn 86’ 2 Door Hi-Cube boxcar, removed the cast on grabs and replaced with wire grabs, painted the car with Floquil Platinum Mist and Scalecoat II IC Orange. Lettered the car with ICG Decals by Dan Kohlberg, I checked with Dan and these cars were used to moved fiberglass panels (like under car hoods) to the final assembly plants.

I just picked up these beauties off of E-bay, have not decided what railroad I will end up painting them for.

A pair of Hobbytown FA-1 A & B Units, both powered with metai bodies, should be able to pull plaster off the wall with these puppies!

Thanks for looking!

Rick Jesionowski

PS, I am really starting to abhor posting here as I have to sign in every day!

Bear … Thanks for starting WPF.

Casey … Now that is a remakrakable kitbash !

Mike L … I like your speeder shed.

Rick … Have fun with the Hobbytown FA1/FB1.

Terry in TX … I enjoy seeing your C&O layout.

Jimmy … Your train will hold a lot of executives on a very nice train.

Those who visit the Trackside Diner may be familiar with my Chapel Car. Chapel cars operated 100 years ago (or so) in order for people in small towns to have a place of worship. So it really does not belong in my 1950’s to 1960’s era. Nevertheless, I do operate trains with it. I will dispatch it to the Diner if somebody there is dealing with a serious illness or loss of a loved one. … I’m using it myself to mourn the loss of my mother on May 21st. Mom was 96. … Of course, each of you is welcome in the Diner.

My condolence, Garry. Alco FA2 with a short freight passing through the yard.

I have been getting the same thing on my IPad for about a week, but not on my PC. IPad just will not “remember” that I have logged in.

I have a Windows 10 PC and mine signs in automaticaly when I go to this website.

Garry,

Condolences on the loss of your mother. You were blessed to have so much time with her, but it makes the loss even larger when it happens.

Bear, My brain was sagging by the time I got that posted this morning, but I’d intended to throw in a few observations about how late you can run some of it and still be prototypical. I always liked the red underside of DB steamers, too. Saw just a handful still in service in the early 70s, which made quite an impression coming from nearly 100% diesel America. Apparently, one reason they kept them around was for surge power in case of a military emergency. Some research online shows them often being used to pull U.S. tank transport trains to the Graefenwoehr training for annual quals. Kept the traffic off the roads and Autobahn at the same time it offered a chance to test procedures for putting steam into service. This continued into the mid- to late 70s, which surprised me, but I was long gone by then back to the Land of No Mainline Steam.

RDG Casey, Sounds like Gordon is headed for the scrap heap. Maybe his face can be recycled into an interesting advertising billboard?

Jimmy, Lots of hoppers? That’s going to look great. Lots of theater cars? Someone’s going to think management is goofing off a lot…[;)]

Rick, Wow that’s a lot of orange! Those Hobbytowns are the killer app of the 1960s for tractive effort.

Terry, That’s almost sidewalk running, not street running[swg]

Grampys Trains, Great pic as always[:D]

Yes The front of the hotel is only 15 ft from the tracks

Just enough room to drive a single car down the dirt road in front

There are no traffic lights in Thurmond [:)]

where can one get German Rail passenger cars? TIA

I have this old P2K (pre Walthers) loco that was pretty beat up (8701). I rebuilt it added some goodies like sound, etc. Now it is #8543

Walthers carries Marklin and Trix.

I’ve used Reynauld’s before and had great service: https://www.reynaulds.com/

The next three are widely advertised, but no direct experience:

Well this week’s project for me was to weather up some cars for the Club layout. The first one is a combination of acrylic hobby paint and airbrushing (and a hobo riding the rails).

Lastly, here is a shot showing what the cars started like and how they ended up.

Great work everyone!

Garry - sorry for the loss of your Mom.

I have most of the decals applied to my fleet of ancient stock cars. I need to apply some build date decals, and I still have to apply some Micro Sol. Then they will get a shot of Dullcote. Eventually I will weather them but since I haven’t done much weathering I’m not about to start experimenting on these guys. I’m going to install new Kadee #550 Bettendorf Self Centering trucks because the old sprung trucks that I have barely hold the Intermountain wheel sets in place. I also have to install Kadee #148 couplers. Interestingly, when I test fit the trucks and couplers before painting everything came out at the right height.

The spotty white paint is supposed to mimic the effects of lime being sprayed on the car to disinfect it. My version of the Algoma Eastern didn’t bother to paint the bottom halves of the cars white before spraying them with lime. At least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it, and its only one example of many of my fudging the A.E.s history.

Regards all,

Dave

Great stuff, Renegade and Dave![bow]

Since things are kinda slow - and I’m more awake now[zzz][:O] [(-D] - I’ll add a set of Before and After pics about the permanent location of the Grandt Line Rio Grande sectionhouse. I built it years ago and it’s moved almostly constantly since.

Before

After

I built a wall from styrene and scraps of embossed cut stone sheets and capped it with a strip cut to size. Then I backfilled the wall with Sculptamold to bring the surface up closer to track level. The rails are leftover code 55, probably too steep for getting on and off in real-life, it’s what fit.

Dave,

That fleet of stock cars looks great.[B]

Nice work from all,as usual.

Dave, your “bleaching” effect on the stock cars looks very realistic.

Garry: I’m sorry to hear of your loss.

SLOWLY getting the HO layout taken up,and the On3 put down. I have some basic scenery in,but still needs a lot of work…

Have a good weekend.

Mike
