Well heres what I have been working on. I added some tall grass to my one scrap, junk, whatever area.
Heres the logging/tree cutting service I am working on. Plus I am going to add a backdrop there, and probably all around the layout. That will probably be next weekend.
I still have to find a building and still add more scenery. I know the track looks bad, but that is getting ready to be all new track soon. This track is so old, and beat up.
My entry for this weekend, a GM & 0 SD 40-2 made my Kato, coming upgrade and around a curve. The sky background is a ‘skyboard’ that I painted back when I was experimenting with different methods of painting a backdrop. I had a few pieces of left over masonite so I practiced on them. Shooting from this angle there isn’t an actual backdrop so I used one of my practice skyboards propped up behind the scene.
Hi Robby: Details West, SS914. No, it involved teeny, tiny drills, teeny, tiny linkage, futzing with the throw, a regular pain in the you know what, but worth it, I think.
Grampy, I was just about to tell you that your picture, well… both of them actually, are about as real looking as they could be. Simply outstanding work!
Yes, you’re correct. Those are super trees from Scenic Express.
I take it they are working (as in the target moves with the points)? I have done that with some of the ones I have installed, mostly in places where it will show up well. And yes doing THAT is a real pain, but oh so cool!
Robby if you just have them as static displays mounted by the turnouts, they aren’t really that hard to install. The making of the throw bar linkage to make them move is a frustrating job done with a large magnifier…
Grampy how did you you make the linkage? And awesome work and photo BTW!
Robby, nice car! Scenery is coming along. You have to plug away at it, not fear scrubbing it and starting over if fiddling doesn’t pay off. Looks like a good start to me.
Grampy, you do closeups and lighting extrememly well. Wonderful job on the switch stand. It was there all along, wasn’t it? [:D]
Jarrell, I love the colour tones and the focus in your images. Always a bit of whimsy in there, too.
Okay, here is my experiment…yes, I am experimenting with colours to see if I can mimick an old colour photograph. If it flops, well…let me know.
In this image, I have weathered the engine, a new auxiliary tender, and the new caboose. I also added a pool of “oil” to the bottom of the turntable pit. You should be able to see a reflection just below the near edge of the bridge.
Everyone–GREAT photos to start the weekend off. Cheers to you all. [bow][bow]
Well, here’s my contribution–the further adventures of 2-10-2 #1408 and her little-bitty Vandy tender. Here she is on her way up the 2% to Yuba Summit, just having exited Butte Tunnel and crossing the headwaters of Plum Creek. The crews say that the 32 year old loco (built in 1916, so you can figure out the year of the photo here) can pull anything you want to put behind her, just as long as she doesn’t have to go over 30mph, LOL!
Sorry about the bad picture, didn’t have much time to compose… In anycase, I painted my GP30 into NH colors this week. I’m not super happy about the nose stripes… They were really difficult to place over the previous owners Nose Headlight+Bell.
Grampys, you need to stop posting all these great pictures!!! I only have a 40 gig hard drive! My lap top only has 10 gigs, it is as old as some of my Athearn Blue Boxes![^]
Crandell, not crazy about the old faded look. But you never know till you try. I sort of wish I could play with the photos my self, I do think the fake smoke adds a little.
Not a lot done, have bigger problems I am trying to deal with. But, I did find time to carve the last current section of K-10 Mountain. It is not fitting together well for now, but I still need to pull it back off for more detail work. On the left side you will see the cave I added. Thinking about a scout troop with a camp fire in the cave.
Next is a SD-50 pulling the F7 A and coal hopper from the wreck last week caused by the engineer C&K RR borrowed from Crandall RR. Sure he knows how to run one of those new fangled engines![D)] Added a few more super tress and a dead one by the mine.
I was going to use my hook in the last picture, boy I have not touched it for years! It still has horn hook couplers on it?
Hope you folks enjoy and post more than last week!
Lots of great photos this weekend. I’m still putting up insulation and drywall in the train room; the existing layout has new legs, but I haven’t put it into position yet nor are the structures, etc., on it yet. So, I’ve been working on some painting. This week I wanted to see if I could improve the “water” on the built-up home w/swimming pool I got as a gift. It was originally a very light green (too much of a reminder of what my own pool looks like if I don’t keep up with the water filtration), and the fence was the same green color.
So, I have figures to place and scenery material for use, and an idea for a new engine terminal. Now, will I do all that? Probably not, but I just might. Hasta mañana (see you tommorow in spanish).
Here’s what I found today. The body is RTR but the rest is all glorious Athearn BB. No wires, no tiny 1.5v bulbs, no light board, no screwed down motor mounts. It’s even got the sparky motor.
