It’s that time of the Week again: Weekend photo fun. What is it you ask? Well it;s the weekly thread where users post what they have been working on during the week. Myself? Well, I did a repurposed covered hopper- now serving a second life as a Wheeling and Lake Erie ballast car.
Still need to order the correct ballast grates.
So, lets see what everyone else has been working on
…and THANKS for starting another fine installment of WPF!
That’s a good looking ballast car, a real workhorse! Railroad’s gotta’ have 'em!
I started the week off with a Diesel WOWSound decoder install in an A-B set of Genesis F3s. New York Central only had two A-B-A sets of passenger F3s painted in grey, geared for 100 MPH and steam generator equipped.
Two weeks ago I wrapped up an A-B-A set of B&O E-8 and -9s and put Loksound Selects with Full Throttle in them. After giving the TCS WOWSound another listen (this is the latest revision) my ears sure like these, too! So many great choices[:)]
Wave 'em on through— no coal for these babies!
I’ll add photos soon of the Post Office building. I am in the tedious stage of masking the brick-work! I have the two long walls done and still have the two short sides to get to.
Ed, Lots of wires. Sound is still lots of fun, though.
GARRY, Looks like railcars are a trending topic this week.[;)]
Most of my efforts were directed at building and bashing mny large scale railcar inbto existence, so I started a thread on it here: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/262930.aspx
The T&T Publicity Dept. aRRanged some photo ops out on the line, despite the fact the railcar has YET TO BE DELIVERED[:O] Seeems to be a rather common practice, as often was failure to ever deliver a working veersion of the pictured vehicle. We’re keeping our fingers crossed here.
A good view of the rear platform.
Coming off the turntable at Tin Cup after being turned.
Yes, Mike… My doodlebug hauls passengers from the small town of Hinterland to a junction on the mainline where they connect with trains to the city. … There is no turnaround, and so I added a rear-end headlight for running backwards. … As I commented in your thread, I really like your railcar.
Good morning everyone from Cloudy and Cool Northeast Ohio!
Jimmy thanks for starting, don’t know if you will find those doors, they are the old E&B Valley ones, that are in short supply for a while now.
Ed, nice looking F3’s but I thought they were in a different paint scheme than the one you have or were they repainted. They were mostly used on the the Boston & Albany due to the grades on that portion of the NYC. By the way I liked using the Tichy decals, they are a little strange in that it looks like the lettering is bumped out, but they look flat when applied to the car.
Gary and Mike, nice doodlebugs, but I have never had the inkling to have one what with the railroads I model.
Dave, that is more work than I want to contepmplate for my locomotives.
Terry, a couple of my favorite engines, really like the 2-6-6-2’s used in coal service on the C&O.
I managed to finish a couple of cars this week!
One of many 50’ PS1 Boxcars purchased by the Rock Island in the early sixties, this in a 1964 purchase of a Hydroframe 60 Equipped car. Kadee supplied this kit, painted with Scalecoat II Oxide Red and lettered with Mask Island decals.
Another 50’ PS1 Boxcar with Combination Doors purchased by the UP in 1966, just before the bann on roofwalks came in. I left it in the as delivered state. I also always liked the Autmoated Road paint scheme. Car is an Intermountain Railway Kit, added a Details West Coupler pocket to replicate the Keystone end of car Cushioning System along with A-Line Sill Steps. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and Floquil Platinum Mist Paints then lettered with Mask Island Decals.
I redid the grass on my Swiss NG layout “Engiadina” - turning the green green grass of home into the burnt, yellow grass of a late summer day.
I used my son´s home brewed ex fly swatter static grass applicator, which worked quite nicely with lightly diluted white glue. During the process, I accidently touched my leg with that contraption, making me jump high in the air and my hair looking like the one of the little troll in the below picture.
Those dear to me know, that the growth north of my thinking department is rather sparse [(-D]
I’ll be (finally) finishing a long-running project - Bradford Valley Lumber Company No. 8. I was able to install and program the decoders (motor + sound) during the week. Here it is on my programming track, with one of the inspirations for the model on the computer:
That the Bear has gone veryflaton the Model Railroading front is absolutely nothing to do with all the really Good Inspirational Stuff shared here. Thank you all. [bow]
Jimmy, Thanks for the WPF roll-out. Your repurposed hopper got me to searching my photo library for a shot I took at Truckee, Ca. during the summer of 1988.
I made some progress on one of my buildings (Walthers Barber shop), finished the brickwork (have added more details / corrected some mishaps, since the photos were taken) and masking / painting for windows and trim. Now i need to weather the roof, trim and windows and add details.
Not finished yet though. After the paint has cured, I will apply a semi gloss protective coat, paint the front light housing and light and put the “windshield” on.
