Weekend Photo Fun!!! 8/13 - 8/16

Well if you didn’t know its FRIDAY the 13th!!!

So…Why not start with a Railbox.

Robby, looking good! I love your w*rk!

Not a model, but I know many of you like the 1/1 scale so here is a link to some restoration work being done at the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum.

We are now just finishing up some cosmetic items after several years of work bringing her back up to par for running. We hope to have her pulling a caboose at the museum for Diesel Days on August 21 and 22. More info here: http://www.rgvrrm.org/

Nice work, Robby.

Ray, I just have to make a trip North to visit that attraction.

Great model, Wolfgang. DJ.

Robby wow your work is simply incredible. This week found me weathering another one of my engines. My latest engine to go under the air brush is my Kato Operation Lifesaver Norfolk Southern. Here are a couple of before pictures.

Here another shot of before the weathering.

Here are the after shots. I think it turned out pretty well.

Currently working on a ex-conrail Norfolk Southern Patch Dash 8 and its a bit of a challenge. Weathering a black engine is a little easier than a blue one.

Thanks for the comments!

Here’s a some pictures that might help you next time you do a NS.

A couple of pictures of a NS I use to have.

Jeeze Robby, thanks for starting us out by setting an impossibly high standard! How is anyone supposed to come close to that work (besides Grampy)? [:D][;)] Very nice work!

Here’s a trio of diesels working the grade by the cliffs:

The photo with the NS train going down the street is very cool. I would just hate to live in the house in the photo, imagine waking up the morning and seeing that beast rolling by your bedroom or living window

Depending on the line, it could be anything form one or 2 trains a day to 2 or 3 every hour 24/7!! [:O][{(-_-)}]

That line has CSX and Norfolk Southern (Brownsville, Pa). Its about a mile or so long. The trains vary from five a day to ten plus!!!

Here’s another shot.

I sized down the CSX shot (I forgot why), but you can still make it out.

Grampy, this is my kinda picture! Love the light, the angle and the mood of it all. Congradulations, very well done! Jarrell

Great start by all, you’re making me want to start my next layout now more than ever!

Speaking of which, here’s what I’ve done with the plan over a week or so. I started with a 6x6 and it eventually evolved into this, a 6x8 layout with a pair of 2% grades. I thnnk my next changes will be to the spurs. I’m also thinking about adding an excursion RR museum in the other lobe that will run on the mainline.

I’m still working over around the Southern Aggregate Co, the trestle above and started on Uncle Johns and Aunt Fannies place. She loved flowers and he loved moonshine. None of it is completed, many more details and weathering to do Jarrell

Hello …

Great work everybody.

Jarrel … I like your scene.

Robby … nice weathering. I am trying to imagine looking in the rear view mirror with one of those big NS or CSX units behind!

Here’s and SD7 in Prairie View.

Good Day Folks!

Please keep in mind, that this is my first attempt at working on a model RR. This is just a diorama I am working on, to work on improving my techniques. I still have a long way to go. I have been taking good notes, on what I feel I could have done better. I don’t have room for a layout at my current home, but we are moving soon. I figured this is a good way, to be a part of the hobby instead of just thinking about it.

The new project I started on today is to change my layout to something that’s more user friendly for me. The track plan will be going from this:

to something like this:

I’ve already ordered some new track so the tear-down will likely commence this weekend.

Here are some other things I’ve worked on.

GP7 B cabless unit.

Oil storage tank.

Here’s something that’s becoming an increasingly rare sight on the KCS. A SD40-3 on switching duty as recently as last week.

Folks looks great so far. Main thing I have been doing is playing with the trains with a renewed interest (starting to like switching) and clearing the RIP track. In the last week I have cleared 5 cars and 5 engines.

Garry, funny you happened to bring up SD 7’s. I got my Rio Grand SD 7 back on line after a year. All so finally installed a LED, sure looks good now!

Here she is dragging some hoppers.

Next I tried NCE decoders for the first time, I must say I am sold! I have 3 Athearn RTR engines I pulled from services because they ran like crap. (can I say that here?) I had been using Digitrax DH 123’s or DH 163’s. With kick start up to 30 they would not move till I hit 30% throttle. Tech at Digitrax told me the there motors cost Athearn 50 cents each and where junk. So I pulled the engines from services for 2 years.

First one I installed a NCE D15SR in was the SP SD 50. It was nothing but a pain from the day it came from E-Stupid! Here she is MU’ed to a Santa Fe Dash 9 that has a Mashima motor in it.

Today I got my Athearn RTR UP Dash 9 up and running. Time was not kind to it. While sitting it got knocked to the floor. I was not running it so I picked up the big parts and that was it. I looked for the small missing parts today and found them after a year? Guess I need to sweep more! [:-^] Still missing some small parts but she dragging freight again after 2 years.

Picked up a few Hot Wheels for a buck each. I know they are not true HO scale, but next to HO scale trucks they will pass. 71 Charger R/T looks darn good.

Got a few things done and took pictures this week:

Just completed American Hardware Supply a Walthers kit. Weathered up real good. Not prototypical for the north side of LA Union station, but I ain’t modeling the apartment buildings that are there on the prototype so this was just as good. Just need to find a way to blend the building edge a bit more and we’re done.

Also weathered up and completed another Surfliner model with lights/figures/painted interior for EBay. Hate to sell these off but I have to clear some stuff out.

Have a great weekend!

Rob

Edit: Damn! Flickr doesn’t allow direct photos anymore. Guess I’ll switch image hosts… Switched to Photobucket.

Is it just me, or has the progression and quality of the modeling depicted climbed a couple of notches in the past year? There is some mighty impressive stuff being shown.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to produce new photos for a bit, so I will have to resort to some older ones.
