Weekend Photo Fun 8-21/8-24

Great, simple great!

Wolfgang

Margaritaman, Very nice, and thats just not saying enough. I like the scale of the signals in that they are not oversize or super bright. The layout and rolling stock are also exceptional. I know you have a reputation for exceptional work but this is the first I have seen it in some time.

Thanks for your contribution and motivational photos.

Crandell,

I LIKE IT !!!

You captured that early winter atmosphere so well!

**John…**The fade is done by Testors white, thinned with paint thinner. Just lightly air-brushed on.

Thank you. Those tufts are from Silfor and took a long time to glue down but far easier and less frustrating than the old technique! My only frustration with these is gluing my fingers together.

I owe you a beer! Thanks for noticing. The signals were a mental dilemma (polite version). I so wanted them but was afraid of losing the feel of the old mountain town and short line. My buddy built them for me and at my request made them shorter than normal, I also used a bit more resistor to dim them down. I painted them black and dusted them to look like old cast iron. I’m happy with them and as you noticed, the way they seem to blend in. Thanks again, MM

Worked more on Enola Yard.

Started some ballasting/weeding, first layer…

The tower represents “DAY” tower which was actually at the south end of Enola (but on my layout is the north yard throat.

More work remains. Lots more.

Dave,

is this still N scale? Hard to believe! Only the cars on the overpass tell the scale!

Fantastic job! May I ask what track you are using?

Railfaning this Saturday morning and this found SP switch engine picking up a load at the General Water Heater plant in Burbank.

Thanks! Yes, it’s N scale… Using Atlas code 55 track now. Eventually the original door layout will be re-done with Atlas code 55.

Raise your hand if you’ve seen this anywhere else this week! (he says with all the modesty he can muster…)

Robby - You might want to rephrase that with exactly what type of paint thinner. Not that I don’t know better, but someone who’s guessing could ruin something using the wrong thinner, if you know what I mean.

Crandell, I have visions there of the tunnel on the Pennsy’s Montandon Secondary near Coburn, PA. My father and I traced that line once driving me home from Penn State after the end of Spring semester. The tracks have been out since the 60s between Lemont, PA and Mifflinburg, but I can imagine in the PRR steam days it might have looked like your shot there along Penns Creek. You’ve captured the bleakness of a central Pennsylvania winter…

You’re doing a fantastic job Dave. We all look forward to more updates and photos.

I’m currently trying to reel my jaw back in! [bow]

Sir, that is some EXCELLENT modeling!

I think the old Lockheed facility would be a good one for you to model.[:D] I’m born, raised, residing in SoCal, and enjoy your “look” knowing what the real deal looks like. I drive up the “5” to the “valley” every other week. Others might not notice your mountains in the backdrop, but that look is spot on as well.

The prototype Lockheed wing cars were set out on the old Burbank depot track for a switch engine to deliver and pick up from inside the plant. This is about all the Lockheed I can have for now on the layout. Modeling the Lockheed plant would be like steel mill modeling. But i’ve thought about it!

Dave V., thanks for your compliments. That is one of about three or four photos and settings that seems to draw positive comments out of the many dozens I have taken and posted. It is good to know that I occasionally get it ‘close’. [:)]

I am following your yard development, but have felt the need to keep quiet to see the result. It is moving along quickly, and looks to be up to par with your previous modelling. However, I sense that you are just getting your momentum, and that this addition will be a real showpiece. I would like to just enjoy the updates until I see how it turns out. For now, attaboy…! And I hope you are excited by it. Lots of promise.

Lots of good stuff so far and this is only Saturday.

Here’s a different angle on a RBOX I did a while back. It was sprayed with alcohol and lightly scrubbed with a small brass bristle brush. After a quick rinse it was sprayed with an alcohol/black acrylic wash.

Just got back from a trip to Arizona for a bit of vacation. While there, had the opportunity to visit a couple of layouts. Here are some shots I took.

The boys had a blast!!
